Junior Process Engineer

£32,000 - £38,000 yearly

Job Description

Junior Process Engineer

Gas / Hydrogen
£32,000 – £38,000 + Benefits
Southern England

Our client operates one of the largest onshore gas storage and processing facilities in the UK: a top tier COMAH site that embraces complex core processes and unit operations including separation, compression, liquefaction, and solvent recovery. The facility is now preparing for significant further investment in its existing assets and revenue streams as well as those for a green/low carbon energy future that will include hydrogen processing. Achieving a neutral carbon balance through alternative energy production is a key medium term strategic objective.

Mark Stracey Recruitment is supporting our client with the recruitment of a Junior Process Engineer, offering an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career engineer to develop within a complex operational environment while contributing to future energy transition initiatives.

The Role

You will support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of process systems across the site, working closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams. The role provides exposure to both day-to-day plant support and longer-term improvement and project activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to operations, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Monitor plant performance and identify opportunities for optimisation and debottlenecking.
  • Support process design and engineering work for plant modifications and capital projects.
  • Assist in commissioning activities and planned shutdowns.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Contribute to performance forecasting and reporting activities.
  • Support maintenance planning and reliability improvement
  • Assist with development of the asset towards net zero targets, including hydrogen and low-carbon initiatives.

About You

  • Excellent academic background including a strong degree (at least a 2:1) in Chemical Engineering.
  • 0–2 years’ post-graduate experience (including industrial placement) in energy, petrochemicals, hydrocarbon, or related industries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proactive, organised, and keen to develop technically.
  • Understanding of process engineering principles and plant operations.
  • Interest in hydrogen or low-carbon energy is advantageous.

Why Apply?

  • Work on a major UK energy asset with complex process systems.
  • Gain exposure to both operations and project engineering.
  • Be part of a business investing in future energy and net zero solutions.
  • Strong opportunity for career development and progression.
