Process Engineer
Position Summary
You will provide process engineering expertise to support safe, compliant and efficient manufacturing and delivery of capital projects at the GSK Montrose site in the United Kingdom. You will work closely with operations, other engineers, automation, quality and EHS teams to solve technical issues, deliver projects and improve processes. This role offers learning opportunities and the chance to make a real impact while supporting smart manufacturing technologies.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and resolve technical issues on plant for daily manufacturing, working with operations and cross functional teams to deliver timely solutions.
- Contribute to site capital projects: provide input at the design stage; participate in safety reviews (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, HAC); work on detailed design including equipment specification, HAZOP action closure, software early specification, through to commissioning of new plant and processes.
- Improve process plant software by identifying changes or providing software for new plant, preparing detailed design specifications and conducting offline & online testing.
- Collaborate with other disciplines (mechanical, electrical and instrument technicians, automation engineers, operations, plant engineers, EHS, quality, process engineers) to investigate and resolve any issues and communicate with operations.
- Ensure good practice and compliance with legislation, including reporting and investigation of safety issues.
- Drive process improvement initiatives and contribute input into planned changes.
Basic Qualifications
- BEng or MEng in chemical or process engineering.
- Hands on troubleshooting skills and willingness to work both on plant and in the office.
- Practical experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within a regulated industry.
- Experience in process support, commissioning or project delivery in a plant setting.
- Knowledge of process safety principles and participation in safety studies (e.g. HAZOP).
- Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to influence individuals at all levels in the business, from shop floor to senior leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with process control systems and plant software (e.g. DeltaV or similar).
- Prior experience in pharmaceutical, food or chemical manufacturing with awareness of Good Manufacturing Practice.
- Demonstrable experience of process plant commissioning and testing.
- Track record of delivering continuous improvement or capacity enhancement projects.
- Chartered (CEng) chemical engineer.
- Familiarity with technical change control and engineering documentation best practice.
