We are looking for a Power Engineer to join our insurance client’s London office as a risk engineer. You will provide clear, practical risk advice to underwriters, brokers and end -user teams within power generation, helping ensure effective risk selection and strong loss prevention for operational and construction sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct 2–3-day site surveys of operational power generation plants, including interviews and tours.
  • Produce reports detailing operations, loss prevention features, quality rankings, and recommendations.
  • Estimate potential property damage using bespoke modelling software.
  • Review new power projects and assess risks for operational facilities.
  • Support the Power team with risk placement in international insurance markets.
  • Maintain and develop the Engineering Management System to ensure continued excellence.

The Person

  • 10 + years in the mechanical power systems engineering sectors, with a focus on thermal power plants operations and risk engineering.
  • Will have managed and executed thermal power plant projects with a principal contractor, OEM, or plant owner.
  • Proven track record in overseeing and delivering equipment overhauls and inspections of thermal power plant turbomachinery, including gas turbines, aeroderivative gas turbines, steam turbines, turbine generators, and CCGT.
  • Specific experience of O&M in GE, Siemens or Mitsubishi gas turbines very welcome.
  • Experience as a leader in the operations and maintenance of thermal power plants.
  • Familiarity with the execution and operation of renewable energy resources and energy from waste is beneficial.
  • Proficient in using company-sanctioned software, systems, and relevant online tools.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Able to attend the London office 2 days a week.

 

Essential knowledge

  • Knowledge/experience of a range of power station technologies including conventional thermal, combustion turbines, CCGT, nuclear & renewable power generation facilities.
  • Experience of power generation design/construction projects.

·        Familiarity with the operational failure and wear patterns and characteristics of differing turbine models and components.

 

  • Graduate and possibly chartered mechanical or electrical engineer.
  • Skills in other languages particularly welcome.
