The DuPont Yerkes site located in Buffalo, New York employs approximately 470 DuPont employees and another 40-60 contractors. Comprised of two business units, Yerkes includes: Corian® (Sheet lines 1 & 2), Tedlar® (Polymer, Mix/Casting, SP, Treating/Finishing), and Power Generation (water/steam). The units work independently to produce materials that are used in a variety of products including: countertops, building panels, wall covering, solar cells, and surface finishes for airplanes, cars, buses, and trains – to name a few.
Buffalo, New York is located on the eastern shore of Lake Erie, at the head of the Niagara River, 16 miles (26 km) south of Niagara Falls. Its early embrace of electric power led to the nickname "The City of Light." The city is also famous for its urban planning and layout by Joseph Ellicott, an extensive system of parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, as well as significant architectural works. Its culture blends Northeastern and Midwestern traditions, with annual festivals including Taste of Buffalo and Allentown Art Festival, two major professional sports teams (Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres), a Division I college athletics program (SUNY Buffalo Bulls, aka UB) and a thriving, progressive dining, music and arts scene. Buffalo has “small town charm and world class culture”, is surrounded by opportunities for many outdoor activities (boating, skiing, hiking, etc.), and, most importantly, has only minor traffic issues.
This role plays a key part in supporting the Corian® manufacturing process. This process is a truly hybrid one – consisting of continuous, batch, and discrete control. It is a complex system with many integrated parts. The Process Automation (PA) engineer is the primary resource for maintaining, updating, and troubleshooting the existing, but very new, Rockwell Plant PAx control system and its interface to other systems including off-line lab testing, in-line instrumentation, the process historian, and the manufacturing execution system (MES). The PA engineer will work with a team of Technicians and Engineers to maintain, troubleshoot and improve the process automation systems in the plant. They will be a recognized technical expert within the team with impact on day to day operation and on future success of the facility. They will also be a key member of the PA technology support team which includes Operations and Manufacturing Technology experts. Continued technical and professional development is included in this position to ensure the facility remains up to date on PA technology.
