About you and this role
Dow Industrial Solutions has an exciting opportunity for a Process Automation Manager at our Louisiana Operations site located in Plaquemine, LA.
This role will join a staff supporting the world’s largest purified Ethylene Oxide production business and associated EO derivatives Specialty Amines businesses.
In this role, the Process Automation Manager's primary responsibility will be functioning as the Manufacturing Representative for the control system migration projects for the Ethylene Oxide facilities, modernizing the proprietary Mod 5 to an ABB 800xA system. The Manufacturing Representative provides detailed knowledge of the manufacturing process technology in project design, construction, and startup phase. The Manufacturing Representative will also take the lead in developing Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) validation procedures. The process automation manager will also be part of the process automation migration team, responsible for the creation and startup of ABB 800xA configuration. In the plant aligned process automation role, you will be part of an existing team sustaining the existing automation system performance, resolving operational unplanned events, and improving plant operational reliability and safety by defining and implementing improvement projects.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for tasks such as those listed below when equipment or instruments are being added, removed, or changed. This role is also involved in Safety Integrity Level (SIL) determination, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and designing or modifying the basic process control system (BPCS).
- Designs the control strategy and control systems, as well as implementation, which is not typical within the industry.
- Establishes project goals and planning.
- Tracks progress, schedules, and costs for the PA team during all project phases.
- Ensures implementation of the best technology in the project by integrating operability input from plant operations, Most Effective Technology (MET) from the Technology Center, and Maintenance and Reliability inputs into definition and design.
- Carries the majority project accountability for the technical integrity and operability of the final facility. Ensures effective interface between the manufacturing representative and plant operations to ensure technical integrity and optimum operability.
- Provides effective communication and coordination between project team and Operations.
- Implements Functional Input and Evaluation process. Implements Scope and Criteria Management.
- Ensures safe and effective Commissioning, Start Up, and transfer to Operations process. Delivers trained organization.
- Delivers new and/or updated Operating Discipline.
- Develops control software, operator graphics and simulation software.
- Completes the factory acceptance test (FAT) Commissioning.
- Participates in project scoping activities.
- Drives strategic solutions in partnership with stakeholders.
- Engages with stakeholders and cross-discipline and cross-functional global project teams.
- Performs high level functional activities, such as requirements gathering and gap analysis of user requirements, requires functional and business expertise.
- Participates in the design specifications, configuration, testing, implementation and startup of manufacturing execution systems (MES) solutions.
- Identifies and deploys Most Effective Technology (MET) standard solution components to meet project requirements.
- Supports training of operations and support commissioning and start-up of the asset.
- Supports future process improvements and product development/solution roadmap.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking.
- 8 years of engineering, manufacturing, automation or related experience required.

Preferred Experience
- Mod 5 or ABB Industrial IT experience preferred.
- Chemical engineering degree preferred.
