Job Description
Technical Asset Operations (TAO) team aims to develop central, competitive capabilities delivering end-to-end value through the AMS work processes as an integral part of our Downstream Manufacturing (DS-M), Integrated Gas & New Energies (IGNE) and Upstream (UP) asset teams. We support the business worldwide and often do so together with the deep capability of our Project & Technology (P&T), Information Technology (IT) and Finance & Data Operations (FO-Data) partners. You are going to play a vital role in the delivery of continued efficiency and effectiveness improvement by bringing cross-business learning on key processes.
What is the role:
The role is responsible for performing engineering activities covering all key areas of instrumentation technology including flow, level, temperature, pressure measurement, control valves, sizing and selection, and analyzers. This role is expected to provide remote support on the asset engineering activities.
As the role holder you will:
- Analyze and explore improvements for maintenance/design/reliability on Controls & Automation system covering SIS, DCS, F&G, PLC, Actuated/Control valves and field instrumentation
- Bad actor analysis for nuisance trips based on SAP notifications and remote troubleshooting
- Ensure Functional Safety and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) requirements for SIF/SIL validation, verification and Safety Life Cycle Plan
- Provide support on HAZID, HAZOP, SIS/IPF Classification studies, and any other relevant studies pertaining to engineering
- Conduct or support failure analysis of instrumentation failures or incidents.
- Identify unit performance improvement opportunities and reliability risks, and work with Area team to determine and implement cost effective solutions.
- Support the clean-up of Critical data, including P&IDs, C&E, Control Narratives, Instrument datasheets, Wiring Drawings, and SAP.
- Review and improve existing strategies and procedures in timely manner as per latest technical and maintenance requirements.
- Support instrumentation equipment obsolescence planning and upgrade strategies.
- Author Plant Changes (MOC) within the instrumentation discipline and provide Technical Assurance of plant changes by other disciplines and departments
- Own, lead and resolve Asset threats and opportunities with cost effective, root cause solutions.
- Perform Instrumentation/PACO Engineer role and other technical functions, with scope covering technical data and documents of the operating units, manufacturing sites, chemical plants, supply chain and distribution locations.
- Provision, as subject matter expert (SME), for Technical Support that enables the operating units, Sites to leverage the benefits of utilizing the Engineering Services, Reliability Study, maintenance strategy to the fullest extent.
What we need from you:
- Strong aptitude for Learner Mindset
- University Degree in Instrumentation & Control/Electronics & Instrumentation/ Electronics/Electrical or related full-time university degree.
- Broad exposure in Operations and Maintenance, with at least 6-8 years relevant experience in the Control & Automation Engineering discipline and a good understanding of the Maintenance process/system in Oil & Gas or Petro-chemical industry.
- Prior engineering experience is required
- Sound knowledge in Instrumentation and Controls with working experience in field instruments (including control valves), control systems (DCS, PLC, Machine Monitoring), and analyzers
- Experienced in engineering solutions and driving plant changes in an operating environment.
- Ability to independently, resourcefully, and creatively research and implement new solutions.
- Demonstrated professional competence and managerial skills, and proven ability to influence change across an organization and geographies.
- Exposure to Preventive/ Corrective/breakdown maintenance and turnarounds.
- Experienced in engineering solutions, driving plant changes, and managing projects in an operating environment. FAT/SAT participation experience is an advantage.
- Ability to engage and effectively communicate at all levels inside and outside Shell and within different cultural settings.
