Job Description

Basic Function

The Olefins Production Engineer will monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize operating units to drive process and product improvements in the La Porte Olefins (QE-1) Furnace area.  During a typical day they will apply technical knowledge to detect causes of deviations in quality, capacity, yield, and energy consumption.  The individual will identify, collaborate, recommend, document, and implement initiatives to improve unit performance, with the goal of capturing incremental production at the lowest cost. These initiatives could be short term or strategic in nature and will encompass detailed analysis, and if needed, development and execution of expense and capital projects.  As a member of the technical engineering team, you will also collaborate with unit specialists and other engineers to support process design and implementation of capital projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Monitor, troubleshoot and optimize operating units.
•    Develop systems to improve and sustain value in the areas of health, safety, environment, production rates, reliability, cost and quality.
•    Maintain strong safety and environmental compliance focus.
•    Collaborates with operations to identify new opportunities to remove constraints to maximize on stream time and profitability.
•    Contribute in a team environment and establish work relationships with onsite and offsite functional groups to achieve results.
•    Balance day-to-day operational priorities with long term strategic objectives to ensure alignment with company goals.
•    Support value enhancement and continuous improvement activities by providing technical expertise, engineering calculations, and justifications for new projects and participating in capital, expense and special project scope development, execution, support, and training.
•    Provide process design support for capital projects.
•    Coach less experienced engineers, as well as provide technical training to others.
 

Qualifications

•    BS degree in Chemical Engineering
•    Typically 8 years of experience in a refining, petrochemical, or chemical environment
•    Knowledgeable in chemical and process engineering fundamentals
•    Ability to apply engineering concepts to solve performance problems
•    Knowledgeable in the HSE/PSM regulations and relevant company Operational Excellence guidelines/procedures
•    Knowledgeable in the development of Process Design Packages and related economics
•    Good troubleshooting skills and techniques
•    Leadership skills to drive technical solutions and mentor engineers
•    Preferred experience in Olefins or cracking furnace technology
