Job Description
Wood Minerals and Metals business currently has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Process Engineer, ideally based in either our Salt Lake City Utah office or Houston, Texas office, but other locations will also be considered. The ideal candidate will have extensive mineral processing and metallurgical experience, with strong knowledge of Hydrometallurgy, and experience working on Lithium projects, preferably with a Consulting/Engineering company.
This is a strategic position; this individual will play a pivotal role in the early phases of minerals & metals projects. The Principal Process Engineer acts as a Subject Matter Expert to assist the Project Development Group in winning work from Desktop and Concept to Definitive Feasibility Study phases by enhancing the technical depth of Wood capability. The Principal Process Engineer remains active within the industry, to improve and promote Wood’s image as a leading Minerals and Metals execution house.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Project Development Group by providing technical strength and insight in the early development project phases.
- Support the Business development group in the generation of the technical sections of proposals.
- Assume technical accountability for the process engineering design effort from concept study phase through to implementation.
- Utilise strong hydrometallurgy knowledge to assist with the development of new extraction technologies that support the decarbonisation effort.
- Work closely with the Wood global process engineering team to provide technical support to studies as required.
- Control and sign off on all process engineering deliverables associated with minerals and metals projects.
- Review and/or develop technical specifications, technical evaluations, and recommendations for equipment purchases.
- Participate in design reviews, model reviews and resolution of action items.
- Interact with client teams on design issues and incorporate client requirements in a cost-effective and low-risk manner.
- Review process designs for conformance with recommended safety standards using Wood’s risk assessment tools and participates in the full range of process plant HAZOP reviews.
- Provide process engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Interact with industry professionals, vendors, and professional organizations to maintain a knowledge of technical advancements and how these might be applied to improve client services and products.
- Assist the Business Development team in identifying business opportunities and contribute to project proposals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in mineral processing, metallurgical or chemical engineering or a related discipline (M.Sc. or Ph.D an asset)
- A minimum of 20 years’ diverse commodity experience in mineral processing or metallurgy plant design, and/or hydrometallurgy.
- Experience in lithium and other battery-precursor minerals or metals processing is highly desired.
- Critical candidate must have “Operating Cost Estimate” generation experience.
- Experience in complete project lifecycle would be advantageous.
- Process modelling software (e.g., METSIM, SysCAD or Aspen) experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to manage own activities on or ahead of schedule and on or below budget.
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Must be willing to travel locally and internationally as required.
- Occasional activity outside of normal working hours may be required to integrate with the global Minerals and Metals teams.
