About Baytown

 

With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Those who live and work in Baytown will find an area rich in history, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities due to its proximity to scenic waterways, namely Galveston Bay, the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou.

 

Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.

 

Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.

 

The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, which makes the plants and products more efficient as we develop technologies to make cleaner fuels and work together to operate more safely and reliably.

What role you will play in our team

 

The Control Systems Engineer, as part of the Engineering Services department at the ExxonMobil Baytown Refining and Chemical facilities, will interface with a diverse team of personnel such as manufacturing plant operations and technical/engineering (Safety, Instrumentation, manufacturing process experts, applications engineers, etc.), to maintain a variety of process control systems including Honeywell Experion, TDC3000, TDC2000, and Windows based workstations and servers. 

 

What you will do

 

  • Provide technical and operational expertise for the day-to-day support of the process control systems and infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot control systems hardware and software failures for Honeywell and Microsoft systems
  • Participate in projects to replace servers, develop new networks, and improve control system sustainability
  • Comply with all ExxonMobil standards, such as Process Control Practices, documentation, Management of Change, and design review procedures.
  • Ability to respond, via telephone mainly and occasionally in person, to off-hour callouts and requests for support.
  • Willingness and ability to be part of a team
  1. Be the systems engineer on a business team to inform that team about systems projects, repairs to the system, and system health
  2. Be part of a group of 20+ Engineers and Specialists maintaining and improving process control systems at one of the 5 facilities across the Baytown area
  3. Be aware of and practice good cybersecurity habits like patching, antivirus updates, and access control to the system is expected
  4. Communicate well in written forms (e-mail and presentations) and verbally in team settings with peers, other engineers, and business team members to represent your work or idea
  • Willingness to learn and intellectual curiosity
  1. Systems Engineering on specific hardware is often not taught in any university or college
  2. Much of the learning is on-the-job and through peer-to-peer learning (hardware specific training is available)
  3. Ability to solve problems and be a self-starter
     

About You

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Education
  1. B. S. in Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to use and troubleshoot at least one of the following areas of process control systems and associated computing areas:
  1. Honeywell Experion
  2. Honeywell TDC3000
  3. Honeywell TDC2000
  4. Honeywell Uniformance Process History Database (PHD)
  5. Microsoft Windows Server (2016, 2018, 10)
  6. VMware/virtual machines
  7. TCP/IP-based network switches and routers (e.g. Cisco or equivalent)
  • Experience of at least 3+ years in a professional setting maintaining a process control system or a Windows based network of workstations and/or servers is a minimum requirement to be considered for this position
