Who Our Client is

The world still needs hydrocarbons, but given the climate crisis, we cannot use fossil fuels anymore. The answer is using carbon dioxide i.e., CO2 utilisation, carbon-to-value, power-to-X.

Our client, a climate-tech spin-out company from the University of Oxford, is on a mission to develop novel catalysts and reactor designs to convert carbon dioxide and hydrogen into hydrocarbons to meet rapidly growing market demand for fuels to meet SAF regulations as well as for the petrochemicals market, not least surfactants, synthetic lubricants and plastics.

The business has recently closed an £18m funding round including leading US and UK venture funds, oil majors, traders, United Airlines and others. Leveraging this funding round will expand its facilities, double its team headquartered in the UK and scale-up the technology with demonstration plants

Position Description.

The search is for a Senior Process Engineer with process and system design and/or operation experience who can support wide variety of activities from designing the next scale up project to site preparation, commissioning and operation of pilot plant. The role will involve the design, implementation, analysis, and improvement of our processes and plants. The appointee will collaborate closely with a team of skilled Engineers to identify opportunities for improvement.

There will be opportunities to design, scale-up and operate state-of-the-art catalytic processes to convert CO2 into long chain hydrocarbons such as aviation fuel. The successful candidate will engage in both lab-based and industry-based works and gain a complete understanding of the novel product operation and workflow with hands-on experience.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities.

·         Support various development projects in the scale up and demonstration journey.

·         Design, build and operate client plant.

·         Operate pilot plant.

·         Conduct research studies and trials.

·         Troubleshoot our various procedures and operation.

·         Drive continuous improvement, innovation in the Engineering team to improve quality, productivity, and efficiency.

·         Make sure engineering delivery business procedures and best practices are being used.

·         Promote a positive safety culture across engineering and capital projects.

·         Consistently embody our client’s company values

 

Qualifications and experience.

To be successful you will ideally have:

·         A degree inChemical Engineering or related discipline

·         Experience within a research facility, ideally leading own research

·         Experience working in a design environment

·         Experience with commissioning and startup.

·         Chartered member of IChemE would be preferable.

·         Self-motivated and ready to work on a commercial endeavour

·         Experience of health and safety in the lab and/or plant

·         An understanding of synthetic fuels, syngas or the chemical/petrochemical processes would be preferable

·         Experience of managing business critical processes.

·         A passion to deal with the climate challenges we all are facing now.

·         Ability to listen and learn from wider team.

·         Ability to come into the office a minimum of 4 times per week and to travel.
