About You and this Role

 

Dow has an exciting opportunity available for a Lead Improvement Engineer to support our Poly A Polyethylene Plant in Plaquemine, LA!   The Poly A Plant is a five-train facility that is key to Dow’s Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) business. 

 

In this role, you will lead the prioritization and implementation of all plant improvement opportunities, which includes capital, expense and/or Six Sigma-type projects.  You will partner with the Plant and Operations leaders to solicit and collect ideas, define opportunities, and implement projects. You meet global business goals through optimization of the process technology, implementation of improvement projects and implementation of Most Effective Technology (MET).  In addition, you will implement Process Safety improvement projects and will eventually develop technical expertise to serve as the Plant Process Safety Focal Point.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Serve in a business leadership role leading the development and completion of technology plans supporting global business and functional strategy by application of the continuous improvement work process.
  • Lead the continuous improvement work process to develop and implement Plant Specific Technology Plans in alignment with the Global Technology Plan including data collection, gap analysis, idea generation, prioritization, improvement project implementation, and review of results.
  • Coordinate and leverage globally, the resources required for implementation of the Technology plans.
  • Monitor and measure implementation of the technology plans.
  • Provide input for improvement of work practices and priorities using plant and improvement project data.
  • Interface with the business and participates in business plan technology development.
  • Work with the technology center to set priorities for MET definition needs.
  • Provide coaching and direction on goals and plans for Improvement Engineers.
  • Ensure validation of project performance objectives after implementation
  • Has an in-depth understanding of technology and work practices as well as problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
  • Serve as a change agent for driving technology.
  • Assure the proper technical advice and knowledge are present in key decisions impacting plant safety.
  • Assure implementation of Dow’s requirements and technology for process safety and reactive chemicals at the plant level.
  • Plant Resource on Process Safety/Reactive Chemicals issues. 

 

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (i.e. engineering, manufacturing, or related).
  • Willing and able to travel in order to support business need.
  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.
  • Possession of a TWIC card or eligibility to obtain a TWIC card may be required for this position based on final hiring location. Per the US Government and Department of Homeland Security policy and regulations, you may apply for a TWIC card if you are a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, naturalized citizen or a nonimmigrant alien, asylee, or refugee who is in lawful status.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

 

 

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience working with Polyethylene.
  • Prior project execution experience.
