Positioned at the heart of the Prax Group’s integrated vision, Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery is critical UK infrastructure, providing the fuels needed to keep the country moving.  Headquartered in London, the Prax Group is a leading British, independent energy conglomerate dealing in crude oil, petroleum products and bio-fuels and is the only British refiner remaining in the UK energy market.

 Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery located in North Lincolnshire is a key asset for the Prax Group and is a world-class supplier of quality fuels. Constructed in 1968, it has the capacity to process up to 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year (109,000 barrels a day) and currently employs around 415 staff in additional to a similar complement of contract personnel.  The refinery extends over 500 acres and incorporates some of the most advanced refining and conversion processes in Europe, supplying products by road, rail, sea and pipeline.

 To meet future demands, Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery is developing a next generation refinery with an unwavering commitment to decarbonise and reduce our CO2 released into atmosphere by 85%, as the site transitions to become a UK-leading, low carbon refinery. We are investing heavily for the long-term and are actively looking for new talent that can support our journey.

 We now have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Authority Process Safety Lead to join the team on a full time, permanent basis. Salary upwards of £76K.

We are looking to recruit an individual with extensive knowledge and experience of Process Safety compliance, as part of our HSEQI department. The role leads a team of engineers and specialists who provide industrial safety support for the Refinery which is an upper Tier COMAH site.

 Amongst the key responsibilities, the role will ensure that all major hazards/risks on site are identified and managed with appropriate procedures and practices. In addition, it will develop and coordinate strategic plans for Process Safety Compliance, ensuring that these meet industry good practice and the requirements of the UK Regulators, for which the incumbent will be the Refinery primary contact as the competent specialist in Process Safety.

 Other responsibilities include:

  • Monitors developments in legislation, regulations, standards, issues and concerns relevant to process safety and ensures that these are reflected in refinery systems and plans.
  • Maintains the master process safety failure and consequence data and ensures it reflects current industrial standards.
  • Monitors for relevant industrial incidents worldwide and ensures that lessons are communicated, and action plans are developed and tracked.
  • Ensuring that the interests of Prax are represented on external industry bodies from a Process Safety perspective.
  • Ensuring that the site complies with COMAH and all relevant legislation.
  • Leads and provides specialist support to investigations.
  • Ensures that the business teams and departments are aware of their roles regarding process safety and supports them in achieving regulatory compliance, recognised industry good practice and ALARP demonstration.
  • Proposes the long-term capital investment plan regulatory compliance and 'As Low As Reasonably Practical' ALARP demonstration
  • Co-ordinates the update of the site COMAH safety report to ensure it reflects the latest site risk profile and control and mitigation measures.
  • Provides process safety support and expertise to all process change requests.
  • Provides coaching and support to both direct and indirect support.
  • Member of the Crisis Management Team

 Qualifications/Experience Required:

  • Chartered Chemical Engineering or equivalent discipline with 10 years relevant process engineering or significant operational experience in the refining sector or similar upper tier COMAH site.
  • MSc or equivalent in Process Safety and Loss Prevention.
  • TUV Functional Safety Certification to IEC61508/61511.
  • Good team management, coaching skills, verbal, written and presentation skills.
