Senior Pressure Safety Engineer 

 

The Sr. Pressure Safety Engineer is the technical professional and leader of Pressure Safety Revalidation and Capital Project Engineering efforts at the site. They serve as pressure safety subject matter expert for Project Engineering teams, and Operational Teams (manufacturing units) of complex and hazardous chemical manufacturing site. This role provides guidance and support regarding pressure safety and process safety to peers, including more senior engineers that may have less process safety experience. They manage site pressure safety strategy including preparation of pressure safety design review (PSDR) packages and / or managing completion of pressure safety packages for revalidation efforts or capital projects, utilizing a combination of internal and external resources..

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Sr. Pressure Safety Engineer, are to:

 

  • Lead pressure safety revalidation efforts using a combination of internal and external resources;
  • Act as a pressure safety lead engineer for capital project efforts;
  • Assist in the effective deployment of technical resources and actively influence department and division process safety goals;
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP) and process safety related government and industry standards (i.e., OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) and API (American Petroleum Institute)) and chemical process safety;
  • Support Process Safety audits for compliance at the site;
  • Prepare and update PSM guidelines to assure compliance with OSHA, EPA local, state and insurance regulations and requirements;
  • Support corporate, site, and plant process and safety goals by working in close cooperation with Engineering and Site Operations;
  • Act as an official approver for internally or externally prepared PSDR packages;
  • Support site wide process and safety goals by working closely with site operations.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or similar technical disciplines;
  • Proven analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills;
  • Collaborative team player, capable of working well with people across all levels of the site and Bayer;
  • Excellent understanding of chemical engineer fundamentals: chemical reactions, unit operations, and process control concepts;
  • Ability to analyze highly integrated processes based on process documentation (PFD (Process Flow Diagram), P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram));
  • Ability to communicate effectively and promptly with all levels of the organization.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical industry preferred;
  • Process Safety / Pressure Safety experience;
  • Manufacturing and Chemical Engineering experience.
