Senior Plant Engineer, Kansas City, Missouri 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Senior Plant Engineer at the Bayer Crop Science facility in Kansas City, Missouri will provide the technical knowledge and be accountable for planning, coordination, and execution of technical activities needed to support manufacturing operations.

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Plant Engineer are:

 

  • Plan, direct, coordinate and execute activities concerned with design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and machinery;
  • Estimate the production cost for products the facility makes. Evaluate and implement cost-saving methods. Update management on estimated costs of changes in product design so appropriate action can be taken;
  • Advise vendors and management about product specifications and plant capabilities;
  • Direct maintenance of production buildings and coordinate requirements for new designs, surveys, and maintenance schedules for equipment and machinery;
  • Optimize production processes and logistics regarding safety, environment, cost, quality, and regulatory requirements;
  • Provide the necessary technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolving problems with Production Unit processes and equipment; collect, analyze, and report equipment downtime information; ensure resolution of critical equipment items. Perform Risk Assessments and resolution of risk analysis;
  • Develop, review and implement recommendations to improve reliability of infrastructure and production systems. Maintain the Calibration, Maintenance and Safety procedures in defined area of responsibility. Develop specification and strategy of spare parts to meet reliability objectives;
  • Provide requested support for audits conducted by internal and external agencies;
  • Resolve Quality action items and write Engineering Assessments as Subject Matter Expert (SME);
  • Coordinate maintenance activities and shutdown requirements for production equipment and facilities;
  • Project management and detailed engineering of smaller projects (AFE, <$500,000), including planning, detailed design, procurement, construction management, quality, budget and optimization. Provide plant and production input and project engineering support for large projects, (AR, >$1 million)."

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline;

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

    • Minimum of six (6) years industrial manufacturing experience, preferably in the chemical process industry, OR four (4) years of experience with Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline;
    • Experience managing budgets, planning, and overseeing or executing projects;
    • Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to steer a team;
    • Effective communication, interpersonal, collaboration, project management, and relationship building skills;
    • Good knowledge of engineering tools and skills (Recommended and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices);
    • Good understanding of supporting processes associated with the operations and maintenance of a production plant.
    • Willingness to travel as required (< 10%).
