Job Summary

The Process Control Specialist is responsible for sharing the responsibilities with the PCO group for the specification, design, installation, modification, and maintenance of the hardware software associated with the ABS and Polypropylene Plant’s HMI/PLC/DCS control system, Process Computers, process related PC functions, and all associated networks, peripheral equipment and power and grounding wiring as applicable. Also, for leading process control related projects. This position must interact with equipment vendors, service vendors, and other groups on the plant site to accomplish the varying responsibilities associated with the job.

 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Provide efficient solutions for process control and automation systems by utilizing sound engineering practices to achieve the highest economical level of reliability.
  • Provide technical advice to plant personnel upon request.  On call to support the facility on nights and weekends.  Second level advanced support for any and all issues related to the DCS or PLC and associated systems. 
  • To assist in training by conducting training for technicians, mechanics, and exempt personnel. 
  • Maintain and execute high standards and compliance with all aspects of cyber security. 
  • Provide routine hardware and software maintenance and continuous process improvements while maintaining documentation of the process control systems. 
  • Provide routine software backups and hardware upgrades per SABIC and vendor standards.
  • Ensure that all current site safety and environmental policies are followed in the implementation and/or modification of all process control hardware and software. Recommend new policies by implemented as needed.
  • Participate in the planning/scheduling of all process computer related tasks, including cost justification and allocation of resources.
  • Provide new hardware/software applications to meet on-going site needs. These may include instrumentation, DCS, HMI/PLC solutions.

What Matters to SABIC

  • Five (5) years industrial or related experience, preferable in chemical operations or compounding processes.
  • Strong background in computer software programming, instrumentation, and general wiring knowledge is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity is required.  Working toward SABIC’s Manufacturing Cyber Security Certification Program. 
  • Honeywell graphics development, batch programming and continuous program modifications are required. 
  • PLC logic in ProWORX, HMI development in Cimplicity, Modicon PLC installation and maintenance experience is required.
  • Tuning of various control loops. 
  • Previous experience in operations or maintenance of computer systems and networks is recommended.
  • Must be responsible, extremely accountable, a highly motivated self-starter, a meticulous worker, service oriented, and assertive.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Good teamwork principles.
  • Able to read, write and perform basic mathematics.
  • Able to troubleshoot complicated hardware systems.
  • Able to comprehend somewhat complex software programs.
  • Must be capable of logical and meticulous thought.
