About you and this role

 

 

As the Process Safety Manager, you develop and apply technology, management systems, and hazard assessment tools designed to protect people, property, and the environment by controlling the risks of unplanned events such as fires, explosions, and chemical releases. This role has the corporate stewardship responsibility to assure that process safety technology, management systems and hazard assessment tools are appropriately applied in the supported business or businesses. You support a business or geographic region and/or influences changes to Dow Process Safety technology and initiatives. The Process Safety Manager role requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Partner with the Technology Centers and EH&S leaders to develop and implement business strategies for meeting EH&S goals as related to process safety within the facility.  
  • Work with assigned Technology Centers – EO, Alkoxylation and Amines -  to implement Process Safety Most Effective Technology (MET).
  • Participate in Process Safety Technology Center initiatives and activities within the business, site and globally, and lead implementation at the facility.
  • Provide Process Safety expertise for Management of Change, including approval of MOCs as the Process Safety functional reviewer.
  • Participate in RCIs for incidents at business aligned facilities, at the local site and within the facility. Lead RCI for PS related incidents within the facility and drive improvement of PS related operating discipline.
  • Provide interpretations of LPPs and other Process Safety requirements.
  • Provide Process Safety training.
  • Participate in incident investigations and leverage the learning from these incidents across Dow.
  • Participate in Project Reviews and develop recommendations for addressing process safety issues.
  • Conduct Reactive Chemical/Process Hazard Analyses (RC/PHAs), facilitate LOPA studies, conduct Project Reviews and ensure they are completed on time. Develop recommendations for addressing Process Safety deficiencies identified in these reviews.
  • Conduct Security Vulnerability Assessments and act as the facility focal point for corporate EH&S audits.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (process safety, engineering, manufacturing or related).
  • Essential functions of this position may require, among other things, that the employee use particular types of equipment -- such as on-site safety equipment that has specific weight limitations whereby the individual’s own weight, plus the weight of tools and other items and materials, must not exceed a certain threshold.  (For example, some types of safety equipment may be rated for a maximum weight limit of 300 pounds total.)  In the event a job offer for this position were (conditionally) extended and provides for a pre-employment medical examination, the individual will be appropriately evaluated in regard to their ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
