As a senior scientist in our company's Biologics Process Research & Development (BPRD), you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists and engineers to design and develop upstream microbial and cell culture process to innovate and support our Company's biologic pipelines and production platforms. This position will have the opportunity to apply and integrate innovation into biologic process sciences to establish our Company as the industry leader in next-generation biologics manufacturing. In addition, we work closely with colleagues in Discovery, Pre-clinical, and Early Development to rapidly develop manufacturing processes for diverse biotherapeutics, and efficiently manufacture material to supply clinical trials. We are also responsible for late stage/commercial process development and the development of new manufacturing technologies. We work with our partners in our company's Manufacturing Division to commercialize and launch new products.
Independently design and conduct microbial and cell culture studies and analyses using a variety of analytical instruments/techniques and biological assays
Systematically and scientifically characterize different microbial cultures and/or mammalian cell cultures to improve process understanding and development. Champion this knowledge into biologics process innovation
Responsible for process automation and control to streamline cell culture lab operation
Proactively partner with interdisciplinary our Company's and external scientists for study design, execution, and data analysis. Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver and advance project timelines
Bioprocess scale-up and technology transfer to manufacturing facilities
Promote, create, and implement innovative ideas for microbial and cell culture process
Data analysis, data interpretation, manuscript preparation, publication, and presentation
Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory work environment
B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related biological fields with 7 years of relevant experience or Master's degree with 4 years or Ph.D. with some relevant academic or industrial experience
Required Experience and Skills:
Cell culture aseptic technique, assays and general laboratory practices
Microbial or mammalian cell culture process development or hands-on experience with recombinant protein expression or chemical/metabolites production using different expression systems
Basic knowledge of statistical methods and computer programming/analysis packages like SIMCA, JMP, R, Python or Matlab
Excellent stakeholder management and interactive skills; ability to work in a matrixed team environment and collaborate with both internal and external partners including vendors
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Strong scientific knowledge in microbial fermentation or mammalian cell culture process development for recombinant protein or chemical/ metabolite production
Background in applying cell and/or process engineering approaches for scientific investigation, problem-solving or process improvement
Expertise in bioanalytical techniques such as flow cytometry, microscopy, biochemical assays, and cell functional assays to characterize microbial or cell culture processes
Strong knowledge of cellular metabolism and working knowledge of medium development
Proven records of scientific publication and communication with excellent oral and written skills
Demonstrated ability to think critically with excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Basic understanding of process automation programing and bioreactor operation including ambr15, ambr250, and 3L bioreactors is highly preferred
