Discover Impactful Work:

The Advanced Cell Systems Production team at ThermoFisher Scientific is responsible for testing various Primary tissue-derived products, including cells, subcellular fractions, along with reagents and for various biological applications. Our team is dynamic and fast-paced, relying on teamwork, multitasking, and communication within the team and the larger organization. Therefore, we seek an energetic individual with effective communication, technical and operational skills to join our team. The candidate will follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) and work in compliance with EH&S (Environmental Health & Safety), GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), and any other required manufacturing or company systems (e.g., E1 (Enterprise 1), Agile, Track wise, etc.). In addition, this position will support the team in achieving daily production schedules and product quality goals. 

A day in the Life:

  • The candidate will follow SOPs and comply with EH&S, GLP, and other required manufacturing or company systems (e.g., E1, Agile, Track-wise, etc.). 
  • A team lead who is responsible over scheduling, closing work orders, compiling data, and generating reports.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the scientific principles in biology. 
  • Be able to culture and maintain cells using aseptic techniques.
  • Troubleshoot and think critically. Anticipate needs and problems while creating solutions using PPI (Practical Process Improvement) tool. 
  • Be able to support the team in achieving daily production schedules and product quality goals. 
  • Perform mathematical calculations routinely (e.g., viability, concentration, and density). 
  • Record information accurately into various electronic databases (e.g., raw and calculated data, inventory transfers, routing hours). 
  • Review data, recognize and report inconsistencies to the supervisor. 
  • Understand and apply good documentation practices consistently when documenting work. 
  • Follows ThermoFisher Scientific safety guidelines. 
  • On-call Hours required. 

Keys to Success:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field is the minimum education requirement.

Experience

  • Minimum of 4-7 years of related experience. 
  • Knowledge of Aseptic Technique/cGMP manufacturing  
  • 3-4 years of mammalian Cell Culture experience. 
  • Hepatocytes or primary cell culture experience preferred.  

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Must be customer focused, able to work under pressure with a team 
  • Anticipate needs and problems while creating solutions using PPI (Practical Process Improvement) tool. 
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency, contagious optimism, and a 'can-do attitude. 
  • Proven ability to follow policies and procedures consistently and independently, written and verbal instructions, and meet schedules required. 
  • Able to work with business computer software with logistics-related databases desired and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems experience. 
  • Strong organizational, record-keeping, and data-analysis skills are needed. 
  • Ability to be on call and to work some weekends if needed. 

This position interacts with equivalent levels of internal personnel. That interaction requires practical communication skills and customer service skills. Effectiveness in this role also requires functional knowledge of cell culture, cryopreservation processes, media and reagent preparation, work order creation, entry and closure, and good documentation practices (GDP). The job encounters recurring work situations of a routine nature where the ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required. Accuracy is required in performing all functions of this position; work errors could cause schedule delays. This position requires the individual to be ready to start work on time daily. Unplanned unapproved "missed time" is needed to be less than 2% annually. The incumbent typically receives general instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignments.
