Job description:

As scientific lead, you will act as subject matter expert for the treatment and provision of the potable water supply, sewerage network, water management zones and environmental sampling at Hinkley and on associated sites. You will use your scientific expertise and process management knowledge to develop an innovative waste and treatment science strategy that will support our treatment manager in the correct delivery of treatment services and maintenance of treatment assets. This will include ensuring 100% compliance with the relevant environmental and regulatory standards to avoid financial and reputational damage to our company and the client.
Day-to-day, your role will involve leading on the evaluation of effluents and their effects on treatment quality. As well as reviewing and revising processes such as chemical dosing and sampling to reduce risk and operational costs, while still improving efficiency. You'll also be developing reporting tools to provide accurate treatment quality data, in addition to helping ensure company targets for COSHH, health and safety, process audits and budgets are achieved. Alongside this, you will be required to develop a training programme to maintain our team's knowledge of new processes and procedures. You may also be required to provide scientific advice on incidents and emergencies if needed.
You'll be called on to provide expert input on a range of scientific issues including chemical reactivity, processes and analysis, and on occasion, to act as a 'trouble-shooter' for issues on site. To be effective and credible, you'll need a degree level scientific qualification or equivalent. Ideally, you'll have attained membership of a relevant professional body too, as well as certification in COSHH, SSSTS or CSCS if possible. It is vital that you have significant experience of waste and sewage treatment as your professional credibility as a subject matter expert is key to the role. You'll be working alongside engineering colleagues so a good knowledge of engineering, mechanical, electrical and telemetry principles and applications would be very useful. As well as your technical knowledge, you'll need to be confident dealing with a range of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and comfortable organising and presenting complex technical data. You will be working in a busy and highly pressured environment and you will need to be able to maintain high work standards and effective working relationships irrespective of day-to-day pressures.
The role will primarily be site-based with periods of working in the office too. It may include working at other sites locally, so you will need a full driving licence. You will be required to participate in shift patterns and take part in routine standby cover.
In return, we offer:
* Defined contribution pension scheme.
* 24 days holiday rising to 28 with length of service, and you can buy or sell leave after one year's service.
* Life insurance.
* Childcare vouchers.
* Cycle2Work scheme.
* Discounts and cashback scheme from more than 1,200 high street and online suppliers.

Please remember you must be able to prove your eligibility to work in the UK and provide evidence of qualifications gained. All offers of employment will be subject pre-employment checks including Basic Disclosure Criminal Records and referencing and may include drug and alcohol testing.
