Commercial Licensing Manager – Europe
New global B2B commercial role, essentially requiring strong Technical & Engineering expertise

The Catalyst Technologies Business (CT) within Johnson Matthey's Efficient Natural Resources Sector (ENR) has recently restructured to ensure its Commercial organisation is closely aligned to deliver the overall CT strategy. Johnson Matthey (JM) is excited to advertise this role for a specialist Commercial Licensing Manager for the Europe and FSU region, to join a new global peer team.
This is a Technical role, involved in key business to business Licensing projects, it is about facilitating and guiding significant sales (c£100m-Bn+) of CT’s Licensed Technology, engineering services, catalysts and proprietary equipment with major Project Developers. Reporting to the Head of Regional Sales and closely collaborating with the Licensing Centre of Excellence Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for driving, building and maintaining effective relationships with new and existing technology partners. Being involved from the initial feasibility assessment, through all stages of contract management, developing competitive tenders, to final agreement and operational handover to Engineering Project Management colleagues, maintaining ongoing ‘arm’s length’ support. This role requires a robust character, able to gain credibility and work autonomously in global regions. It requires multi-cultural, relationship building skills and an ability to work cross-functionally with JM colleagues, including all the Commercial Directors across Chemicals, Refineries, Gas Purification businesses, with Regional Heads of Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Project Management, Strategy, Technology, Finance and with important third party customer contacts, EPC’s and Technology Partners etc. This role will involve 30-50% global travel and within your region,
You will be a degree calibre candidate, (ideally in a Scientific, Technical or Engineering discipline) with strong analytical skills. We require a Chartered Process or Mechanical Engineer (or equivalent) with significant experience gained at senior level in the Chemicals, Catalyst or related industry sector, managing a portfolio of technologies and processes. You must have strong Contract negotiation skills, project management understanding in the sector, and commercial awareness (which can be further developed, alongside further understanding of the CT portfolio and marketing landscape.)
