The Role The Process Technologist is responsible for providing timely, fit for purpose technical assurance and advice to the Unit Asset Management and Operations Team and other business functions, collaborating with them to support and achieve a sustainably safe, reliable, profitable and growing enterprise. The role is part of the Technology Team, a team of approximately 40 Chemical Engineers at Essar’s Stanlow Manufacturing Complex. The Process Technologist will proactively identify and deal with day to day unit safety, reliability, efficiency and optimisation, as well as longer term improvements covering HSE, reliability, profitability and growth within the unit and across the site’s value chain from feedstock purchasing and processing through to finished product delivery. Responsibilities of the role include the following: Provide process safety assurance, advice and expertise, leading and participating in risk assessment programmes for site and progressing resulting actions Regularly and rigorously monitor, assess and report units’ short through to long term performance (including catalysts) using the suite of tools Identify and escalate accordingly process related threats to production and safety such that timely and cost effective responses can be implemented Complete month end data including validation of data for legislative reporting purposes Support unit operating teams in delivering production plans Technical development and approval of changes (using the site Management of Change process) including records updates Support the implementation of Capital projects Initiate, develop and lead technical studies to improve the units’ performance and hence profitability Provide technical input to the site procurement process including catalysts Support the preparation and execution of maintenance turnarounds Documentation – the site owner for the units’ P&IDs; Area Classification Drawings; Plot plans; COMAH process description and major accident hazards section, COMAH flow schemes; Energy Performance Tracking models; Process Safeguarding Memoranda; Process Alarm Manager; Design data and process guides Mentor and support colleagues, including counter signing MOC documentation where appropriate Support the site in complying with legislation such as COMAH; REACH; PPC; EUETS Understand key product specifications and the potential impact on finished product quality within and downstream of units to support internal and external customers Be willing to participate in out of hours duty rotas that provide support 24/7 to the site About You Our ideal candidate: Has previous experience working in a refining or petrochemical complex Has a MEng in Chemical Engineering or equivalent qualification Has obtained or is working towards Chartered Engineer status with the IChemE Understands the expectations of internal and external customers, and takes personal responsibility to ensure these expectations are met Takes steps actively to improve safety, reliability and financial performance and evaluates progress being made Resolves problems in own area by analysing information available, using previous learning, thinking broadly and consulting others where appropriate Refers to, and analyses appropriate factual data to identify key issues and achieve root cause analysis; communicates findings and adapts processes to prevent problems recurring Takes sound decisions with an awareness of the consequences within own area of responsibility and is clear about limits to own decision making Develops good working relationships outside own team with colleagues across the business Communicates clearly and consistently, presents information in an understandable way.
