Site Process Automation Manager
Lead role to drive a step-change through further Controls Automation of a complex manufacturing site, and ownership of all on-going control and instrumented systems

A newly-revised leadership role is available for a Process Automation Manager at its established manufacturing site in Clitheroe - a world class supplier of catalysts to global markets and customers in the Oil, Gas and Chemicals industries and is part of Johnson Matthey’s Efficient Natural Resources Sector. The Clitheroe site is a 24-7 operation of continuous/semi batch processes, with 13 production plants, and c200 JM employees, it is currently semi-automated. This role is a permanent position aimed at driving a step-change in process automation and realising the associated benefits to support the overall site goal for Operational Excellence and retaining its competitive leading edge position.
Johnson Matthey seeks an experienced Process Automation Manager, capable of driving the site automation strategy, defining and executing the implementation plan and providing ongoing expert technical management. This is a key role to take ownership of the main distributed and complex programmable control systems and connected instrumented systems on site, (without which, the site cannot operate). With three (experienced Programmable Systems Engineers) as direct reports, you will lead and develop the Process Automation team, in line with the evolution and increased reliance on business-critical automation throughout the site. In addition you will work co-operatively, supporting and training wider teams, including process engineering, project development, E/I technicians and operators in control systems. As a top tier COMAH site, it is routinely audited by the Competent Authority (HSE and EA), and the job holder will need a high technical competence in control and shutdown systems to maintain and prove compliance. Technical controls leadership experience in supporting major capital projects is also a necessity.
We seek a qualified BEng or MEng in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent, with experience as a proven Process Control or Automation Manager (any additional Chemical Engineering knowledge would be an added advantage.). You must have a significant number of years’ experience in process controls automation and of managing teams, including proven experience of previously leading a major implementation of control automation for another complex, manufacturing site, (ideally operating continuous batch/semi batch process control systems such as Emerson Delta V, Honeywell or similar). This experience may have been gained in wide manufacturing environments, ideally Chemicals or another hazardous industrial environment, or maybe from Food, Pharma etc.
