Do you want to help shape the future of the world`s energy? Nuclear fusion, the process that powers the Sun, can play a big part in our carbon-free energy future. Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (the research arm of the UK Atomic Energy Authority), is one of the world`s leading fusion research laboratories. In addition, UKAEA is also growing a major fusion technology programme, focussing on major challenges facing future fusion power stations:

-Robotic maintenance at the Remote Application in Challenging Environments (RACE) facility

-Materials testing at the Materials Research Facility (MRF).

In addition, £86m has recently been secured for UKAEA to build two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation, further cementing UKAEA leading role in this transformative new energy technology.

We are looking for engineers or scientists to join an exciting new venture, H3AT, to contribute to the current tritium operational and research activities on JET (Joint European Torus) and to be part of the team working on a brand new £40M Tritium Advanced Technology (H3AT) centre at Culham which will carry out tritium research and development in support of the ITER project and deliver innovative tritium processes for a broad range of applications into the second half of this century.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

-Undertaking maintenance activities and installing new equipment, leading the design, procurement, inspecting and testing of such equipment and preparing procedures for plant operation and maintenance

-Operating the JET Active Gas Handling Facility (AGHS) facility from its control room. You will be expected to attain an operational appointment to lead, or take part in, a shift running the AGHS facility upon successful completion of a training program

-Participation and involvement in R&D tasks associated with JET and the new H3AT program.

-Contribute to the design of the brand new H3AT centre.

PLEASE NOTE WE WELCOME APPLICATIONS ACROSS 2 LEVELS AND HAVE ATTACHED APPLICATION PACKS FOR BOTH, THE LEVEL IS DETERMINED BY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE AGAINST THE CRITERIA WITHIN THE JOB DESCRIPTIONS. THE LEVEL 4 ROLE ATTRACTS A SALARY RANGE OF £29,597 -£33,633 AND THE LEVEL 5 ATTRACTS A SALARY OF £38,574 TO £43,834.
