Director, Downstream Oil Technical Advice (c£70-£75k)

The UK Petroleum Industry Association, the trade association representing the eight main oil refining and marketing companies in the UK, is seeking to recruit an individual with technical experience of the UK downstream oil industry, preferably capable of covering refining, distribution and marketing of petroleum products, to join its small Secretariat based in central London. Initially, the job holder will be seconded part-time to the Energy Resilience Unit within the Department of Business and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) located in Westminster. However, longer term there is scope to become full time in UKPIA’s Secretariat.

We are seeking someone with a broad knowledge of the downstream oil industry who is confident and articulate, has good written and oral communication skills with the capability of explaining technical issues in a non-technical manner to a range of people. Although this is not primarily a technical post, detailed technical knowledge of fuel quality and refining will be a major advantage.

During the secondment role at BEIS, the appointee will be expected to act as a source of broad expertise on the downstream oil industry, providing evidence and analysis that policy and other members of the team, within BEIS and across Whitehall, can draw on.

During the secondment you will report to UKPIA’s Director General, and the Downstream Oil Resilience Lead whilst on BEIS deployment, which is expected to be four of the five working days per week, with one day per week in UKPIA’s Secretariat. This position presents an ideal opportunity to gain valuable experience at a senior level and give input into a range energy issues affecting the downstream oil industry and the UK.

The starting date is January 2018 and a competitive package commensurate with the responsibilities is offered.
