Job Summary

SABIC is seeking high energy, goal-focused individual who is proactive in problem solving and possesses the leadership and communication skills needed to help a diversified global business achieve its goals. Successful candidates will work in a manufacturing engineering environment and interface with R&D, Finance, Operations, Projects and Commercial teams to drive performance improvements in Health, Safety & Security (EHSS), Environmental, Capacity, Cost, Quality, Reliability and Revenue in the chemical operations at the Mt. Vernon site.  This position will be working with compounding and extrusion equipment within our manufacturing plant. 

 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Provide process troubleshooting and mentorship to EHSS, operations, project, process, maintenance and technical resources in a compounding and extrusion plant
  • Facilitate, oversee and carry out various studies and risk mitigation activities to improve plant safety, sustainability, reliability, capacity and reduce overall operational cost
  • Identify gaps between current performance and best-in-class and recommend and lead opportunities for improvement and also interacting with other sites around the globe to translate best practices.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and obtain alignment and lead execution of performance improvements and engineering studies including plant trials to address gaps to meet business objectives
  • Provide technical expertise in all PHA & LOPA analysis and identify effective mitigations to reduce process safety risks.
  • Provide Process Engineering support to maintain environmental permit compliance.
  • Provide process engineering support for capital project initiation, execution and startup as well as lead option identification & down-select design basis for project initiation
  • Respond to unit and capital project support needs as priorities change with specific business needs

 

What Matters to SABIC

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred)
  • At least 3 -5 years’ experience in an operating chemical company
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with Operators, Mechanics, Supervisors, R&D and Management to complete projects/initiatives and tasks on time and on budget to meet the business objectives.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to originate and facilitate the rollout of new ideas.
  • Ability to proactively own and champion technical issues and see them through to completion.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and handle multiple initiatives simultaneously during high profile situations.
  • Ability to plan and organize projects from inception to start up.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following areas:
    • Compounding & Extrusion
    • Reaction kinetics/chemistry
    • Fluid flow including powder transfer
    • Heat transfer
    • Distillation
    • Centrifugation and separation
    • Solids handling and mixing
    • Polymer processing/compounding

 

Physical Requirements: Occasionally lifting 50 pounds, mixture of sitting, standing and walking throughout plant to process equipment, climbing fixed and portable ladders and entering vessels for inspection activities. No limitations around complying with full-face SCBA requirements, able to comply with site regulations for PPE while in process areas,

Work Availability

Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Applicants must be regularly available and willing to work (e.g. Monday – Friday)] during assigned hours of operation and such other hours as the company determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs. Plant outage and turn around hours will differ from typical work hours and schedules and are a required part of attendance.
