Job Summary
The Process Control Engineer uses computer technology and fundamental engineering skills to achieve key business objectives within Selkirk’s manufacturing operations where we safely manufacture resin and engineered thermoplastics which are used around the world to solve many of our customers most demanding challenges.

The Engineer will function as a partner with other site teams: work with operations to improve, increase and troubleshoot production; collaborate with project engineers on control specification and design; partner with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to mitigate process risks; and team up with Maintenance and Reliability to discover and address root causes. 

This engineer may also work with other team members on initiatives led from within the process control team such as control infrastructure lifecycle management strategies; security enhancements; obsolescence remediation; reliability enhancements; standards development; work process development; and improving performance metrics.

Process automation is integral to the actual physical operation of the plant.  Given this, it is essential that the Engineer work in a manner where safety in design, execution, details, and operation remains consciously and continuously in the forefront.
 

How You Can Be the Impact

  • Learn our NovaTech DCS system to become main site resource for changes and execution.
  • Attend multiple NovaTech DCS training courses over 1-2 years to gain knowledge.
  • Learn and apply knowledge from NovaTech courses in development and live DCS systems.
  • Perform software and hardware Preventative Maintenance (PM) on DCS system.
  • Create/modify EPN (Tags) in DCS system
  • Interpret SABL code, program new SABL code
  • Utilize an MS DOS program to design, program and deploy NovaTech DCS graphics.
  • Support unit engineers in developing control narrative for projects requiring new or modified controls and instruments. 
  • Successfully execute the control elements of projects: control scope, specification, design, code development, testing, and startup. Project sizes vary; approximately 60% of all site projects include process control content.

 

What Matters to SABIC

  • Demonstrated commitment to manufacturing safety and performance.
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years working in manufacturing, process automation environment actively coding, troubleshooting, developing control narratives.
  • Experience with DCS (distributed control systems)
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement regulatory controls, interlocks, user interfaces, and to efficiently write code.
  • Curious.  Quick learner.  Detailed. Driven to fill gaps in working knowledge. 
  • Demonstrated creativity in solving problems, especially simple, effective, long-lived solutions.
  • Demonstrated passion for and record of doing things better; this includes “softer” aspects of work such as better tools, work processes, procedures, etc. 
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet objectives.
  • Proven record of accomplishments working with teams – both leading and as a member. 
  • Good communication and influencing skills.  Effective advocate of ideas.  Listens well.  Engages in challenging discussions confidently and responsibly.
