Job Description:

We have built the Small Molecule API network including four MAKE sites with harmonized goals: Athens Georgia (US), Geel (Belgium), Schaffhausen SM (Switzerland) and Cork (Ireland). We are now recruiting a technical safety engineer for the Athens, GA site.

You will be a member of the Athens MAM Team and will also be connected with the technical safety team in the SM API network.

You will define, review, and adjust the long-term strategies (roadmap) and processes related to Technical Safety for the business. You will take care that these processes are rolled out, trained, and applied during the whole lifecycle of the technical assets. Result of these processes/strategies must be that our technical assets performing in compliance with technical safety requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for oversight and execution for one or more of the technical safety processes.  These processes include Functional Safety, Hazop/Lopa, PSV/RD calculation, static electricity, machine safety, US NEC Hazardous Location Classifications, You will follow up on the application of these different processes at the Athens site.
  • Be the process and content knowledge owner so that you will be able to give advice on technical safety topics and can coordinate between external specialists, maintenance, engineering, EHS department and operations.
  • Serve as the spokesperson for internal and external regulatory safety audits.
  • You will improve the technical safety aspects of all the assets at the Athens site by initiating and overseeing the successful execution of required projects.
  • Responsible to manage and optimize third-party technical safety support. SPOC (Single point of contact) to improve on knowledge, follow up on workload, delivered quality and cost of external supporting partners (e.g. PSV/RD, Functional safety, explosion safety, electrostatics).
  • You will be a member of the change control board to assure all necessary actions are triggered related to technical safety during process and equipment changes.
  • You will be a core team member of the Athens PSM core team to assure the Athens PSM program is in a good shape.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar degree program.
  • 2+ years’ experience and/or training related experience consisting of working in a chemical, pharmaceutical, food processing, or similar facility that requires the use of chemical processes involving solvents and/or highly reactive chemicals.
  • GxP regulatory experience
  • Experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment is required.
  • Focus and deep-seated understanding of safety processes and equipment .
  • Ability to make decisions across business units with authority and effectively gain buy-in from stakeholders.
  • Encourages and supports the identification and development of innovative engineering solutions to technical safety problems and opportunities.

Preferred:

  • Functional safety certified engineer.
  • PMP/FPX Certificate.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience in technical safety activities (HAZOP, LOPA, Explosion safety, Electrostatics, Pressure safety valve/rupture disc calculations, Functional safety) in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry.
  • Effectively partners and delivers results in a matrix environment; works collaboratively with different (external) engineering and supply chain organizations.
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management.
