Job Remit:                   

Sustainable hydrogen is fast becoming central to the UK’s energy transformation programme to deliver and meet its energy security strategy. Your role while working in our client’s multi-function engineering team will be to provide specialist process engineering support for design and specifications to their innovative gasification product range which generates hydrogen from biogenic fuels in addition to their existing portfolio of heat transfer equipment.

You will be expected to form a key part of the project team undertaking feasibility studies and developing designs from first principles and in-house design software to enable the tender process and to help develop and deliver complex projects from design to operation requiring a broad ranging design skill set.

This role requires a can-do positive attitude with the freedom to think outside the box as part of a small agile team requiring flexibility in its to support to projects and the company.

 

Key Duties:

 

Your primary responsibility will be to produce technically correct ,practical and cost effective designs, specifications and instructions that meet contractual requirements.

The designs need to meet environmental and safety requirements while permitting production, testing and maintenance and be economically feasible. 

Duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

 

  1. Implementation of procedures for design engineering activities to ensure compliance with organisational policy and Q.A. system requirements.
  2. When required, to visit clients in the UK and abroad to discuss their projects and develop design proposals. Thereafter, to modify proposals for re-submission, subject to authorisation and approval.
  3. Work with the Commercial Director as required to ensure that the orders/contracts placed with suppliers adequately meet design needs and that these are well managed throughout the project.
  4. To carry out design planning, design activities, input, and output verification activities, etc. consistent with contract requirements.
  5. Work on design projects which may include steam system design, HRSG, OTSG, WHRU, bubbling fluidised bed combustor, combustors, high pressure gasifiers, pressure vessels, ancillary components such as SCR/CO systems, pumps, fans, deaerators, water treatment skids, compressors etc.
  6. Have and maintain an understanding of combustion & gasification principles and international pressure vessel standards incl. ASME VIII DIV I, ASME I and EN13445. ASME VIII DIV 2 knowledge would be advantageous. Being mechanically and commercially astute would be equally advantageous.
  7. Support and/or facilitate risk assessments incl. HAZOP/LOPA/PHA/DSEAR, capture design decisions and highlight associated technical risks to ensure safety and continually improve performance.
  8. Develop project control philosophies, I/O lists etc. to enable the specification of suitable control systems.         
  9. Develop RFQs, engage with vendors and carry out bid assessments to ensure technical, and sometimes commercial, compliance for outsourced equipment. 
  10. Develop FAT procedures and support plant and equipment commissioning.
  11. Provide operational site support as may be required to support and improve project development and operation activities.
  12. Seek and share good working practices and engage in relevant learning opportunities to continuously improve your skill set and the overall working of the department.
  13. Other associated duties as may be required from time to time to meet business need.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

 

ESSENTIAL

DESIRABLE

Chemical Engineering qualification to at least degree (equivalent) level

Significant experience of proposing, planning & designing multi-disciplinary projects and equipment in the Energy and Power / Oil & Gas industries.

Proven engineering aptitude with practical field experience in process, controls & mechanical design principles

Proven background in a design engineering capacity

 

*

 

Excellent technical writing & communications skills

*

 

Technical Sales & Proposals experience

*

 

Ability to work on own initiative in a fast-paced team environment

*

 

IT skills including MS, heat transfer / flow design software

*

 

Ability to travel and work in a variety of locations

*

 

Ability to work independently and remotely

*
