We are undergoing a large-scale project to repurpose the South Asset to manufacture a new product. The team of commissioning Chemical Process Technicians who are driving the implementation of the project, and creating the documentation needed to be operationally ready for Q1 2024.

The role is to learn the new process, support the commissioning / start up, create documentation, and then move onto an existing shift, to train the other two members of the shift in the new process.

The successful Chemical Process Technician will transition to being trained across both the new process and existing north process.

  • Responsibility for chemical operations across the plant.
  • Responsibility for selected maintenance operations on the plant
  • Work safely, efficiently & flexibly across both stages of process & plant.

Accountabilities:

Commissioning accountabilities:

  • Support the project.
  • Create documentation to ensure operational readiness.
  • Take part / assist / lead commissioning activities under the guidance of a Process Engineer, activities including line walking, checking P&IDs, water flushing of pipework and equipment.
  • Train other team members in the new process.

Chemical Process Technician accountabilities after commissioning role:

  • Manufacture of key intermediates and final A.I product as part of a flexible manufacturing team.
  • To co-ordinate & direct operations and have knowledge of the overall state of the plant. These duties are carried out largely unsupervised, and they are required to decide when the involvement is required at a higher level.
  • Performs in-plant quality control sampling, testing & laboratory routines.
  • Performs raw material movements in line with priorities, including tanker onloading and offloading.
  • Performs Asset Care / 5S duties.
  • Deliver & receive plant handovers.

Critical success factors & key challenges:

  • To learn a new process, and draft new documentation to allow plant start-up safely.
  • To drive commissioning activities of a new asset.
  • To train other shift members in the new process to allow safe operation.
  • Validated on all process & ancillary units on plant.
  • Demonstrate ability & willingness to learn new skills quickly, to plan & organise, and to make decisions.
  • The nature of the job requires a person who can apply a responsible attitude, even when under pressure & can handle a number of issues concurrently with good levels of prioritisation demonstrated.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude in accepting change readily and exhibit a high degree of self-starting in seizing opportunities to drive results.
  • To understand and adapt to business needs with minimal steering.
  • The job is physically demanding and applicants should therefore have a good medical & attendance record and must hold a current driving licence.

Qualifications

Critical knowledge:

  • HSE standards & procedures.
  • Chemical & fire & explosion hazards awareness.
  • Basic chemistry knowledge.
  • Quality assurance procedures.
  • Analytical testing.
  • Lean manufacturing awareness.
  • Safe systems of work.

Critical experience:

  • Experience of operating a chemical process plant.
  • Relevant qualification in process operation.

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities:

  • Must be numerate & literate.
  • IT literate.
  • Problem solving / analytical thinking skills.
  • Engineering skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team.
