The Base Chemicals Technologist is part of the Center of Expertise (CoE), which is a team of about 40 staff members globally spread. The team provides support to our Base Chemicals plants. The Base Chemicals team has its own R&D to support plant and margin improvements ahead of our competition and strengthens Shell corporate knowledge to support the business and strategy. The team drives the innovation agenda via interactive / natural teams which work across the globe virtually.
It needs to be emphasized that Chemicals business play a critical role in delivering Shell’s sustainability program as we meet customer demand for durable goods that both enhance our lives and support the environment through e.g., lighter weight materials, improved insulation, food preservation, etc. whilst converting our petrochemical industry to align towards a zero virgin fossil feed, zero waste and zero emissions from own operations business.
What’s the role?
As Technologist Base Chemicals you will support Shell’ Base Chemicals growth targets and help transforming our technology become more profitable and sustainable in line with energy transition ambitions.
Your accountabilities are:
- Your role is to know what the specific manufacturing site, where you will be embedded and co-loctaed, needs and be able to provide the high quality of service that meets Shell’s commercial goals.
- This specific role is targeted to the process units that are associated with our steam cracking plants and includes troubleshooting, monitoring, turnaround support, and projects on our Chemicals & Products Energy parks.
- These projects would include brownfield projects to improve e.g., safety, reliability, capacity, energy efficiency.
- An important element of this job role is to connect the central Projects and Technology base chemicals process technology department and the local site technology support and production team.
- You will be expected to be co-located at the local base chemicals asset in Bukom Singapore and will be embedded in the SEPL manufacturing site organization as highly integrated professional HIP.
- Hence, the hiring organisation is P&T (PTX/C/B) with its centre of expertise (CoE) at Amsterdam, posting location Bangalore office STCB with base country India, and work location for this role will be Singapore Pulau Bukom.
What we need from you
- Bachelor, or preferable master's degree in chemical engineering, or equivalent with 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Significant (>5 years) experience in base chemicals process technology which is, either, or of following:
- Steam Cracker furnaces, hot side and cold back end
- Steam Cracker associated units (Butadiene extraction, Pygas Hydrogenation, Aromatic extraction)
- Preferably, at least part of that experience should have been obtained during a manufacturing assignment
- Thorough knowledge in Process Modelling of steam crackers and/or associated units (Butadiene extraction, Pygas Hydrogenation, Aromatic extraction)
- Candidate has provided Technical Assurance (e.g., management of change, safety reviews, project stage gates) for steam crackers and/or associated units (Butadiene extraction, Pygas Hydrogenation, Aromatic extraction)
- Has used process date for pro-active technical monitoring. Experience with Digital manufacturing is appreciated, e.g., machine learning, inferential process models, etc.
- Fluency in the English language is a must
