Job Description

Johnson Matthey are currently recruiting for Senior Process Engineers. This is an exciting opportunity to join Johnson Matthey’s rapidly expanding Battery Materials business, which is a material science and electrochemistry based business with global reach. This role will be at the heart of the activities focused on development and manufacturing of advanced materials for the fast-growing battery market, working in a lean team with a start-up mentality driving to become a world-class large-scale producer.

As the Senior Process Engineer you’ll contribute to delivery of key process development programmes and capital projects for future manufacturing assets.  You will have excellent technical competence allied with strong practical and project skills. Your contribution will be highly visible within the Battery Materials business due to their strategic impact.

 

Key responsibilities (role dependent)

As part of your role as Senior Process Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with R&D, supply chain, project engineering, and external parties to coordinate and drive process development projects
  • Identifying and developing working relationships with, third party laboratories, equipment manufacturers, technology providers
  • Contributing to project process engineering deliverables for the design of large-scale plant, including scope, H&MB, and equipment specifications
  • Liaising across multiple internal business functions and external parties to execute the engineering design aspects of the staged industrialisation plans, including supporting on all related strategy work
  • Taking ownership of process engineering models and calculations
  • Mentoring, coaching and reviewing of other team members’ output
  • Work in partnership with the intellectual property department to identify, document and protect, new IP
  • Development of economic models to inform Battery Materials management decisions
  • Preparing and delivering compelling and robust reports/presentations to various levels of management
  • Proactively contribute to a world class safety culture to meet JM Values

 

Are you the ideal candidate?

You will:

  • Be degree-qualified in chemical/process engineering (chartered professional registration will be viewed as advantageous)
  • Have had experience in process development programmes
  • Ideally have experience in the scale-up of relevant process technologies such as wet reaction chemistry, filtration, solids handling, drying and calcination
  • Have demonstrated responsibility on engineering capital and revenue projects.
  • Have experience in the full project end-to-end process.
  • Ideally have experience with metal oxides / hazardous inorganic materials
  • Be delivery focussed to business-critical timescales and able to work under pressure
  • Be a self-starter who is keen to learn about new materials and technologies
  • Be a strong communicator and team player
  • Pay close attention to detail and focus on quality of delivery, with excellent analytical and verbal/written reporting skills
  • Have a stringent attitude to working safely in design and operations
