Job Description

As a Chemical Engineer you will be responsible for supervising, executing and monitoring the activities within an assigned work area / system to ensure reliable and optimal operation of processes, equipment, utilities and facilities so as to achieve target production levels / operating cost within the framework of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), quality, safety, occupational hygiene and environment protection.  Support Jurong Sustainability Projects or other NCE Projects as User Representative / Process Engineer or to provide relevant information to deliver the projects.

 This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following:

 

  • To co-ordinate with the relevant parties to effectively manage the wastewater treatment plant, steam, Nitrogen and Solvent Recovery Units (SRUs) in Jurong and Pilot Plant to support the manufacturing activities and operate within the budget.
  • For steam system, to plan for Statutory Inspection and to review that the activities in log sheets are carried out. Review and upversion the log sheets and procedures whenever necessary or dictated by site or MOM requirement.
  • Line of sight supervisor for the shift technicians.  Execute and monitor the Environment operations to ensure that it is in accordance to local regulations and GSK standards/targets.
  • To identify areas of improvement to plant facilities, processes, methods of operations as well as troubleshooting the processes and equipment problems to ensure greater operating efficiency.
  • To supervise plant modification activities, as well as, plan and participate in the implementation of capital projects, project commissioning and tie-in.
  • To conduct audits and investigations, as well as, participate in audit preparation in the assigned work area(s) to ensure compliance with GMP and Safety requirements.
  • To prepare documents relating to Solvent Recovery, Local Operating Instructions (LOI), Local Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and training manual to ensure that updated documents exist to support the activities of the operations department, schedule plan orders, and materials assignment.
  • To work with the Project Teams to progress the projects in the Sustainability Program and other NCEs.
  • To identify cost reduction measures to ensure all operating costs are within agreed budget and targets.
  • To have the knowledge of using GSK Standards such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) in the daily troubleshooting / Tier Performance Review activities.

  •  Good honours degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • 3 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical, chemical or petrol-chemical

 

 Preferred Qualifications:

 If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Knowledge of waste treatment, boiler system, incinerator and etc.
  • Basic engineering knowledge
  • Basic statistical knowledge
  • Good troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of GMP, safety, hygiene and environment regulations
  • Basic project management skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Auditing skills
