About the role

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a critical element of the fuels portfolio to enable bp’s strategic aims of leading decarbonization of the aviation fuels sector and growing our global SAF market share. Conversion of municipal solid waste (MSW) and other similar solid waste streams represents one of the few truly scalable and sustainable pathways to meet in meeting global SAF demand, while also addressing local waste disposal challenges. 

The project is currently in Concept Development with an expectation of selecting the concept later in 2022. The project team is looking for a process design engineer to support the project development and lead the technical and engineering elements of the project.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead development of the technical and process engineering scope during the Concept Development and Optimise stages of projects
  • Support the evaluation and selection of safe, competitive, and robust concept and enable development of a preliminary FEED package
  • Provide technical feedback to business framing, option screening and concept selection reviews.
  • Identify and lead option development, engineering studies
  • Lead preparation of core project deliverables, including scopes of work, terms of reference, technical notes and decision papers.
  • Verify and consolidate technical inputs and assumptions from site and other partners, evaluate third-party technologies
  • Enable timely and effective engagement of other subject areas and experts external to the project team
  • Provide recommendations to concept development plan, engineering execution plan and project execution plan
  • Provide process engineering and design inputs to key project work and participate in design, safety and project evaluations and workshops
  • Provide review and assurance of process engineering and design work
  • Provide process engineering support and oversight during development of the FEED package and detailed engineering
  • Identify and interpret technical practices, technical practices and relevant codes and standards for projects with support of Domain Experts

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent 
  • Exposure to projects/project development
  • General knowledge of project processes
  • Experience working as a process engineer in design or operational roles in the oil, gas or chemicals industry
  • Strong influencing and communication skills 

Desirable criteria
  • Qualified as a chartered, registered or professional engineer
  • General knowledge of refining processes and typical flow schemes
  • Design and/or operational experience with novel conversion technologies
  • Experience working on projects across all project stages as a process design engineer
  • Experience and solid understanding of process simulation and other engineering software applications
  • General exposure to engineering technical practices and industry codes and standards
