Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Process Automation Engineer in Carrollton, KY! The Process Automation Engineer applies technical knowledge to safely manage Dow’s process automation systems. S/he performs preventative maintenance and provides 24x7 support for installed control systems. S/he is responsible for minimizing plant downtime caused by process automation system failures. This role requires knowledge of current hardware, operating systems, networking systems and system software. The role also requires advanced skills and expertise in a range of processes, procedures, and systems. The Process Automation Engineer may act as a working team lead, providing subject matter expertise and coordinating the work of others.

About you

You are a team player that requires minimal supervision. You can apply technical knowledge to safely manage Dow’s process automation systems. You perform preventative maintenance and provide around-the-clock support for the control systems that you manage. You are responsible for minimizing plant downtime caused by process automation system failures. You can learn, work with a team, and share expertise with others.


Also, you can complete each of the following tasks:

  • Work independently as a system owner, providing care and troubleshooting of process automation systems and their associated networks and interfaces.
  • Identify and manage Preventative Maintenance tasks and health checks for the systems that you support.
  • Provide corrective support in response to a system error condition or failure as the first point of escalation from the plant.
  • Complete project work including system installation, configuration, design, and development. This also includes participation in software and hardware upgrades.
  • Interface with plant personnel for troubleshooting, upgrade, and training activities.
  • Develop and follow through for Service Requests to resolve issues, working directly with process control vendors (e.g., Foxboro, Siemens, etc.) as needed for escalation support.
  • Reporting of all significant system incidents, failures, and outages; participate in Root Cause Investigations and implement corrective actions
  • Cyber Security Elements – user account access, manage/document group accounts, verify user access (remote and local) is accurate on a regular basis, ensure systems are compliant, etc.
  • Coordinate efforts with the global Process Automation organization to escalate needs, track issues, align approaches, and address the concerns of the business.


Required qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking OR Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking.


Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

Your preferred qualifications include:

  • Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, process automation, or related experience is preferred.
  • Experience with the Foxboro and/or Siemens PCS7 control system.


Your skills, knowledge, and abilities include:

  • Ensuring a safe work environment by working safely and complying with environmental, health and safety standards
  • Knowledge of computers and proficiency in using them: current hardware, operating systems, networking systems, and system software.
  • The ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities through strong troubleshooting, problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrating competencies in the areas of leadership, initiative, teamwork, communication, and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Strong work ethic and being able to remain productive in an empowered team environment.
