About you

Dow has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an energized Chemical Engineer in New Process Technology Development R&D within the Ethylene Envelope. This team plays a key role Dow’s Sustainability strategy. The position will be located in Freeport, Texas.


As the Process Development Engineer, you will provide hydrocarbon process expertise in support of the Dow hydrocarbons manufacturing assets and research pilot facilities. Your work will be key to the implementation and commercialization of new, more sustainable process technologies for the production of olefins. You will be responsible for generating new project ideas, providing support for the implementation and technical evaluation of projects in laboratory and pilot assets, and driving implementation within manufacturing assets. You will be required to have the technical background to address problems of technical complexity, engage with multifunctional teams on identifying challenges, propose innovative solutions accordingly, and develops Dow proprietary state-of-art technologies with significant business impact to the company.


Also, you can complete each of the following tasks:

  • Participation in multifunctional technology teams to evaluate and address complex manufacturing issues along with process evaluation of new technology ideas

  • Provide a risk/reward analysis of innovative solutions and new process concepts.

  • Conceptualization of breakthrough technology for improvement in existing assets

  • Trouble-shoot and make improvements to operations of existing olefin plants.

  • Application development of design heuristics with cost estimates to quickly identify critical issues in process designs and technology performance targets to direct research efforts.

  • Apply problem solving skills in a Manufacturing and R&D environment.

  • Demonstrate competency in the use of experimental methods, data handling, and process simulation tools.

  • Consult with plant personnel globally to resolve problems and issues. Analyze plant data to solve production problems, or research improvement projects.

  • Develop an understanding of competitive technologies.

  • Demonstrate competency in laboratory, pilot plant, or in-plant data generation and process development.

  • Ability to plan, develop, evaluate, and implement technology using creative and scientifically sound methodology.

  • Ensure effective collaboration with R&D, Tech Center, Manufacturing & Engineering, Finance, Commercial, and Engineering Solutions groups.

  • Documentation of results in reports and patent disclosures.


Required qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or other related Engineering discipline


Preferred qualifications include:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering preferred.

  • Knowledge in the areas of process operation and design, process optimization, and process improvement is preferred.

  • Knowledge of catalysis research and design of new processes around a reactor/regenerator/catalyst system along with knowledge of fluidized catalytic cracking/solids handling/catalyst fluidization/ circulating fluid bed technology is a plus.

  • Experience in plant operations involving troubleshooting real word problems and developing innovation solutions preferred.

  • Experience as a manufacturing representative or process engineer with project design and implementation preferred.

  • Experience with process control strategy development and the ability to read code to troubleshoot problems preferred.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and must work effectively in multi-functional environment to understand, communicate, coordinate, and implement business objectives.

  • Should have a demonstrated drive to document findings
