The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for a Process Automation Engineer (m/f) to be located at Chennai, India

The Process Automation Engineer acts as a technical resource and process control engineer for capital and improvement projects. These projects include implementing Dow's most effective process automation technologies, incremental process technology improvements and solutions new to Dow's businesses with safety as the top priority.

For opportunity investigations in Dow facilities, the incumbent will work with Dow businesses on the evaluation of data and use of specific methodologies to crystallize potential opportunities. The role would require the individual to work with global team(s) responsible for implementation of process control solutions to capture improvement opportunities.

The individual is expected to be fully qualified and proficient in the application of chemical process control fundamentals.

He/she should to be able to design and implement process control and process safety strategies for both continuous and batch processes, which entails programming of control applications on various distributed control systems

There would be need to write process simulation applications in order to verify functionality of the control program and for training plant operators.

It would be required to participate in plant commissioning and startup activities,
including tuning of control loops.

It would be mandatory to follow aggressive project improvement goals, and plan, track and drive the implementation team to achieve those goals.

The individual is also expected to provide technical expertise as a part of related global networks. The individual must be able to work with minimal supervision and be self-directed.

 

 

 

Applies technical knowledge by providing automation solutions for the chemical process equipment involved, work process, unit operations, operating condition or process technology improvements. At this experience level, supports intermediate projects, or portions of the process automation design within larger capital projects. Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a job discipline.

Responsibilities / Duties
  • Applies Global Project Methodology (GPM) and Process Automation Work Process Discipline.
  • Ensures that the project scope is well defined and meets the business needs in a cost effective manner.
  • Ensures that the process automation is safe, meets DOW LPP’s and other EH&S requirements.
  • Drives project execution within their discipline.
  • Provides input to project schedule and plans, then monitors progress against the plans.
  • Ensures discipline design deliverables for their discipline meet the needs of the project: functions as intended, on time and within budget.
  • Identifies technical problems and appropriately engages the business technology center and SME network to resolve.
  • Programs control applications for various distributed control systems. Writes simulation applications in order to verify functionality of the control program and for training plant operators.
  • Participates in project commissioning and startup activities, including tuning of control loops.
  • Develops knowledge and skills in all aspects of Process Automation.
  • Obtains basic knowledge of unit operations and Chemical Engineering fundamentals.
 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors / Masters degree in Chemical Engineering or Instrumentation & Process Controls Engineering
  • 2 to 6 years of experience.
  • Strong foundation and skills in all aspects of Chemical Process Control
  • In depth knowledge and hand-on experience on commercial distributed control systems from Foxboro, Triconex, Siemens PCS7 and Rockwell in order to implement process automation and process safety applications
  • Production / Operations experience would be an advantage.
  • Commissioning and plant start-up experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of global process automation and process safety standards, (ISA-S95, S88 and IEC 61511)
  • Domestic and international travel may be required.
  • Must be willing to work on projects at different geographies / locations role.
  • Fluency in written and oral communication in English.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification (optional)
