Plant Manager Biochemicals / Pharmaceuticals

Job Description

We are one of the largest vaccine companies in the world, producing vaccines that protect people at all stages of life. In our research and development, we focus on the development of vaccines against infectious diseases that have a high unmet medical need and great market potential. Our vaccines business has a portfolio of more than 20 vaccines that protect people from a multitude of diseases throughout their lives. We deliver these vaccines to people in over 160 countries. There are 17 vaccine candidates in development in FY2020, including three for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). In October 2017, our shingles vaccine, Shingrix, received regulatory approval in Canada and the United States.

In 2020, the company had a turnover of £7 billion. Our strategy is to make differentiated and high-quality vaccines available to as many people as possible. To achieve this, we are focused on developing a strong patient- and payer-aligned pipeline, nurturing valuable partnerships with our local operating countries, and ensuring sustainable access and affordability.

For over 100 years, the vaccines in our portfolio have helped protect people from serious diseases. Our Marietta (USA) site has specialized in the production of smallpox vaccines since 1882. Today, our vaccines continue to help fight some of the world's most devastating diseases, including pneumococcus, meningitis, hepatitis, rotavirus, whooping cough and influenza.

Innovation is the beating heart of our company. Without them, there will be no new vaccines for the many diseases that still threaten individuals, families and communities around the world. Our R&D organization combines expertise in virology, bacterial infections and various supporting platforms. We now have three global R&D centers: Rockville, USA (new in 2015), Rixensart, Belgium, and Siena, Italy, focused on the discovery and development of novel vaccines for a range of urgent public health threats. We focus on potential vaccines that offer significant improvements over existing options or target diseases for which vaccines do not exist.

Our approach is to make the most of our expertise while forming complementary partnerships and alliances with other knowledge and experience. Our vision of a world where everyone has access to the vaccines they need depends on a constant supply of great ideas and excellent science.
