Research Engineer (m/f/d)

The Process Research and Chemical Engineering Division brings together a variety of competencies, including inorganic chemistry, organic synthesis, battery materials research, catalysis, process development and technology, as well as technical services for laboratories/technical centers. In interdisciplinary global teams, we develop innovative products, processes and technologies for a sustainable future and work with internal partners and customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In our Petrochemical Process Development research group, we are shaping the transformation from fossil petrochemicals to sustainable alternatives for the future. To this end, we develop processes without CO2 emissions, explore the use of biomass and waste streams as feedstocks, and optimize existing plants. The advertised position is therefore at a key position at the beginning of BASF's value chains.

• As a Process Development Engineer you will work in interdisciplinary teams on innovative research topics in the field of synthesis gas, olefins, acrylic acid and other basic chemicals.
• You will develop scenarios and strategies for the sustainable production of basic chemicals: CO2-free processes, hydrogen technology, bio-based production, or circular economy. You can find vivid examples under "About us".
• In existing plants, you will be involved in concrete process optimizations that can be implemented quickly, such as new concepts for heat integration or capacity expansions.
• You will drive projects forward independently and thus support the transfer of results from process simulation, laboratory and pilot plant to production.
• In doing so, you will observe compliance with work, safety and environmental protection regulations.
• With a great deal of commitment, you will build up a network with operational units from Research & Development, Engineering and Production and be available as a contact person.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree in process engineering, technical chemistry or chemical engineering, ideally with a PhD
• strong interest in actively driving the transformation towards a sustainable chemical industry
• confident communication skills in German and English for working in international teams
• committed and independent way of working
• ability to develop innovative solutions in a team
• an eye for the big picture even while looking at details
