Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to join our team to lead capital investment projects throughout North America for the Agricultural Solutions division. As the Project Manager you will be the focal point of responsibility, authority, and accountability assuring proper design, procurement, and construction for your projects in accordance with regulatory and internal standards. You will be accountable for the efforts required to execute capital projects, typically <$25mn, during the entire project life cycle. You will also have indirect supervision of a project team of BASF and Contractor personnel, translating the objectives of the project into targets for each of the project team leads. Additionally, you will be responsible for communicating the project status, concerns, and recommended corrective actions to the project stakeholders, typically executive level individuals.

This role will require up to 50% regular travel schedule to support the business.

Formula for Success

Leveraging your education and professional experience as a Project Manager or similar professional experience in a chemical / petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment, you will develop project scopes, generate and/or obtain cost estimates, and prepare appropriation funding requests.  Additionally, you will ensure appropriate project safety reviews are completed as required, both before and after approval, and utilize applicable Value- Based Engineering practices (VBEs) to optimize project scope and costs.

Successfully engaging across the organization, you will establish and maintain partnerships with assigned project manufacturing representatives to execute projects from initial scoping and funding, through detailed engineering and procurement, to startup and commissioning, and final documentation and closure.  Additionally, you will request necessary construction and commissioning resources from Construction and others as required to install the scope of work.

As a leader of project teams, you will request and coordinate required process and discipline engineering and design resources, whether from the site or corporate groups or outside engineering vendors, to prepare engineering design deliverables and procure equipment, fabricated materials, and services.

Demonstrating your computer proficiency, including experience using SAP project functions, you will maintain SAP project data entries, monitor project progress through scheduling and other tools, perform project status reporting, and control spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.

Your broad knowledge of chemical unit operations will be a valued asset as you ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and health requirements, and promote a safe working environment for project execution.  Additionally, you will adhere to current corporate and plant requirements for equipment/materials specifications and vendor preferences.

Your ability to successfully multi-task will aid you in performing procurement activities as required, including preparing specifications, issuing requisitions, evaluating bids, and dealing with vendors. Work with Procurement and comply with applicable guidelines.

Your ability to follow-through will be essential as you monitor and support construction activities to ensure that projects are completed per the design deliverables, quality standards, and plant requirements, and that pre-startup safety reviews are conducted.  You will also follow through to ensure that Operations achieves a successful project startup, and that any project-related action items are completed.  Lastly, you will close projects per guidelines, and ensure proper documentation of files, records, databases, and drawings to meet regulatory and BASF requirements.

Demonstrating your strong project management abilities and continuous improvement experience, you will foster increased differentiation of project management procedures and processes according to the specific Crop Protection technologies, making the resulting assets and asset modifications more competitive within the market. You will also drive continuous improvement, utilizing lessons learned, best practices, and Value-Based-Engineering to optimize project cost, schedule, and functionality.
