Process Engineering Team is an integral component of asset operations. It is a vibrant multi-cultural team delivering capital portfolio projects by working with other Asset team, Project Hub and EPCM contractor. The team also ensures that site management of Change (MOC) work process is healthy & fit for purpose to ensure safe, reliable and profitable operation. The team is responsible for five yearly process safety revalidation of high RAM units which are required as per the Shell HSSE and SP Control Framework, AIPSM Application Manual for existing assets.
To drive process engineering activities for Brownfield portfolio projects in Pre/post DG3 stages and work closely with the EPCM Contractor and project team.
Ensure close cooperation and full buy-in of the Asset organization (Technology, Engineering and Production) during all project phases.
Develop conceptual design in Pre-DG3 stage.
Develop Basic for Design.
Prepare input information for DRB.
Ensure that lessons learned from other Projects and existing Asset operations are taken into account in the design and that there is sufficient robustness in the design to cope with transient conditions (i.e. start up, shut downs, tripping of units).
Review contractor deliverables for process engineering discipline.
Participate in HAZOP, DSR and model reviews.
Support or lead the Assess and Select phases of projects
Interface with Production, Business, and Technical departments to frame and develop the front-end engineering scope for the opportunity
Provide process engineering input on how the scope of change impacts the operation of the facility to ensure the design achieves the project premise
Interface with Shell disciplines and at times, P&T to complete assurance review(s)
Interface with Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) firms to coordinate engineering activities for technical development of the project
Utilize process engineering skills/tools to sufficiently develop concepts for evaluation, either independently or with the support of an EPC firm depending on the opportunity.
Develop the relevant project deliverables for Assess/Select e.g. Project Premise Document, Feasibility Report, Concept Selection Report, Basis for Design, etc. and to continue supporting the project engineer after handover into Define.
Perform detailed fact-based analysis of assigned problem to provide clear definition of opportunities, threats, findings, and solutions
Work with Production, Business, and Technical departments to frame and develop front-end engineering scopes, as well as, ensure incorporation of their input into the scope development, study reports, project value processes, assurance and decision reviews
Support the development of project economics and/or evaluation of project justification with key stakeholders such as the business department, key engineering disciplines, and Production/Operations.
Skills & Requirements
University Degree in Petroleum/Chemical Process Engineering.
More than 8 years overall working experience in Oil & Gas/ Petrochemicals
Experience in Projects Frontend Development
Process Design and Integration
Process Safety and Process Unit Operation Support
Experience in Opportunity Realization within Shell is an asset, particularly experience in Assess/Select. Front end project development experience outside of Shell is also an asset e.g. FEL1/FEL2 – options assessment, concept engineering, feasibility studies, basic engineering, etc.
A strong technical background with process knowledge of Upgrading, Refining, or Chemicals facility operations is desirable.
Advanced skill level in MS Excel
A high level of comfort in using computer-based tools as well as unit simulators. Advanced spreadsheet skill required.
Good interpersonal and communication skills, analytical skills and attention to details are essential to build a strong team and working spirit within the team.
