Where you fit in

The Center of Expertise (CoE) for Gas Processing Technologies delivers asset support, basic design packages and conceptual studies, technology development, deployment and licensing.

The Gas Processing (GP) CoE has a wide range of experts over the different technology areas of Gas Processing e.g. Solvent treating, Carbon capture, Adsorption, Sulphur recovery, Membranes and Gas Separation. The different teams, within the GP CoE, are organized according to activity and work in an integrated way to take maximum benefit from specific skills and availability.

The CoE plays a key role in driving down costs of proprietary technologies with inhouse experimental facilities and pilot plants, gatekeeping & de-risking of externally available technologies and developing cost-effective solutions. In recent years, existing capabilities have been leveraged and further expanded to address carbon capture and energy transition challenges. This has been further strengthened by bundling all CO2 capture technologies that previously were spread across the organization.

What’s the role?

As Process Engineer for Gas Processing, you will be part of the GP Technology Maturation Team in Bangalore. All Process Engineers and Process Developers within the Maturation Team act both as gatekeepers for usage of external technologies as well as developing proprietary technologies through the technology funnel to deployment. In Shell Technology Centre Bangalore, there is specific focus on post combustion CO2 capture technology, Adsorption Processes, Sulphur recovery technologies and Digitalization in Gas processing.

In this role, you will participate in Natural Teams with capabilities across the organization for continuous improvement of technologies as well as maturing new technologies. The Integration, Technology maturation & Operational support teams within the CoE work closely together and thus exposure to all activities within the CoE is possible.

What we need from you?

We’re keen to hear from individuals with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a Master’s degree or PhD in Chemistry with specialization in adsorption or catalysis, coupled with genuine and continuous interest in technology.

Beyond that, we’d like to see the following on your CV:

  • At least 8 years’ experience is required in design, development and preferably pilot plant operation of at least two of the following technologies:
    • Adsorption (molecular sieves, non-regenerable guard beds) & Membrane processes
    • Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) with tail gas handling
    • Gas treating technologies including CO2 capture technologies
    • Sulphur recovery technologies and sulphur handling
    • Gas separation, NGL extraction and fractionation technologies
  • Solid experience in Process Engineering design, service provision, plant operations engineering or technology development & deployment.
  • Familiar with general process simulation (Unisim, ProMax, Aspen/Hysis, Simsci/ProII, etc.).
  • Familiarity with VBA coding in Excel and Matlab / Python will be considered an advantage.
  • Compliance to HSSE rules and process safety aspects of design.
  • A Learning mindset, natural curiosity, and passion for continuous improvement.
  • Sound relationship management and communication skills. Proven ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and with external & internal customers/vendors.
