Basic Function

The R&D Process Engineer is a position covering multiple areas including support for the Applications Polymer Processing and Physical Testing Laboratories as well as the onsite Polymer Catalyst group.  The role will be responsible for supporting state-of-the-art laboratory scale chemical reactors and feed systems, polymer extrusion equipment, computer-based process control systems as well as equipment design, installation, upgrades, major repairs and polymer structure-property projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Ability to support polymer extrusion equipment [experience with Blow/Cast Film, Injection/Roto/Blow Molding, Pipe and Wire extrusion preferred]
•    Ability to support small reactor and chemical process design projects [previous polymer reaction experience preferred]
•    Propose process improvements, develop plans, and complete projects to upgrade the quality and/or efficiency of existing processes. 
•    Complete projects safely, on-time, and within budget. Includes working with procurement and coordination of field construction.
•    Troubleshoot and coordinate major repairs of assigned equipment.
•    Troubleshoot and maintain computer-based process control systems.
•    Maintain a working knowledge of regulatory and corporate engineering standards as they relate to process equipment.
•    Participate in process hazard analyses and management of change for assigned equipment
•    Interface effectively with R&D Researchers and Technicians with definition of requirements, scope and identification of solutions for projects related to process equipment design.
•    Maintain technical expertise in new developments in process equipment to ensure that systems are state-of-the-art, in order to produce optimal R&D data to drive business decisions.
•    Collaborate effectively with others in a team environment to accomplish group and site goals to achieve optimal results in a safe and effective manner.
•    Requires occasional travel.

Min. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with relevant process engineering experience. Degree can be in mechanical or chemical engineering or related field. 
Minimum of 7-to-10 years of industrial experience is required, preferably in the Polyolefins industry.   
Strong understanding of process control, polymer processing equipment and process design with along with a strong Safety attitude.    
Strong computer skills, including MS Excel, Outlook, and Word. Experience with National Instruments hardware/software (LabView) and Wonderware is a plus.
