Location/Division Specific Information

This position is within the Global Chemicals – Laboratory Chemicals Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific reporting to the Bridgewater, NJ site.

The Engineer II, Manufacturing Engineering provides technical support to the value stream. With a focus on continuous improvement, this is a great opportunity to make an impact in a high-profile segment of our growing business. The Engineer II, Manufacturing Engineering supports the Value Stream leader and Supervisor in achieving daily production targets prioritized by Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. He/she will be responsible for ensuring all production equipment is operating efficiently and generating optimal product yield.


What will you do?

  • Monitor equipment performance, analyze and diagnose equipment problems.
  • Identify problems in control systems then implement the necessary action to restore the system to standard operating conditions.
  • Calculate/Provide appropriate metrics and KPIs to area and site to drive excellence/improvement in Maintenance processes
  • Apply engineering theory and practice to perform physical failure analysis, determine root cause of equipment failures and conduct equipment performance evaluations
  • Analyze equipment trends & historical data to recommend and justify improvements to obtain lowest life cycle cost.
  • Support capital projects by participating in setting equipment criteria and specifications to optimize equipment/system reliability and life cycle cost. Also provide technical support for fabrication, installation, and start-up of new critical equipment.
  • Develop and participate in production turn-around/shutdown teams providing input into needed equipment inspection and repair procedures

How will you get here?



  • BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field is required.


  • Requires 3-4 years’ experience in chemical production environment.
  • Experienced with Process Safety Management (PSM) system and making upgrades to chemical process equipment and operations.
  • Experienced with QA equipment validation process & pilot scale manufacturing, Root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and Process hazard analysis (PHA).

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of chemical process operations.
  • Ability to independently drive process & procedure improvements using management of change systems.
  • Familiarity with production equipment including tanks, vessels, piping, pumps, compressors, fans, valves.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and make recommendations based on identified datasets.
  • PC literate with a working knowledge of Databases, Access, Work, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills - Ability to effectively communicate with different levels of the organization.
