We now offer an exciting opportunity to join our new biologics manufacturing plant located in Södertälje, as Senior Process Scientist in Manufacturing Science & Technology.

The new Drug Product manufacturing facility will have the capability to support the Astra Zeneca biologic commercial pipeline and biologic clinical trial and launch programmes.

Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) is the bridge that turns innovative science into actual medicines that help millions of people. The MS&T function ensures reliable and flexible formulation, filling, visual inspection, device assembly, bulk and final packaging of late stage clinical and commercial products, for SBC to become the preferred supplier for these products. We also provide expert technical support for AstraZeneca’s commercial biologic drug products.


What you’ll do

As Senior Process Scientist at AstraZeneca SBC you will be responsible for scientific aspects of commercial operations for new product introductions and tech transfers of late stage clinical and on-market drug products into the SBC facility. The Process Scientist is also responsible for providing scientific support for established products including improvement projects, supplier changes, deviations and complaints management.

  • Provide technical leadership of the technology transfer of drug product and final drug product manufacturing processes to the facility

  • Design process steps and establish associated operational design space and control strategy

  • Provide scientific expertise and technical rigor in experimental design and data analysis across projects

  • Support commercial, engineering and clinical fills, provide support to help close manufacturing non-conformances

  • Ensure robust supply of established products through process monitoring, review and continuous improvements

Essential Requirement

  • MSc (or equivalent) in Engineering or life sciences, in addition to relevant direct experience with biologics drug product manufacturing, technical support of drug product manufacturing or drug product development experience

  • Strong technical writer

  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English

  • Ability to work independently, define deliverables and meet project deadlines in a complex and dynamic environment


Desired requirements

  • PhD or Advanced degree in Engineering or life sciences, in addition to at least 3 years of experience in Drug Product development, manufacturing, or process engineering

  • Be able to provide relevant scientific advice and input in areas such as: final bulk formulation, single use fluid pathway technology, primary containers, isolator technology, filing and lyophilization process, filled drug product visual inspection and the final drug product manufacturing process including device assembly and secondary packaging

  • Experience of working with LEAN tools and continuous improvements

  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks governing manufacturing of aseptic parenteral products and combination products
