This position interfaces with stakeholders at all levels of the Geismar Chemical Plant. This role reports to a Process Engineering Supervisor within the Technology Department at the Geismar Chemical Plant.
Geismar Chemical is the only stand-alone Chemical Plant in the USA, and accounts for nearly half of Chemicals business results. Geismar has a long-term growth strategy, including downstream’s newest unit, AO4, and future growth projects. We leverage Shell proprietary technology to produce Ethylene Oxide, Ethylene Glycol, Alpha Olefins, Alcohols, Ethoxylates.
What's the role -
The Process Engineer provides technical support and leadership to the production module.
The following are the primary accountabilities for the Process Engineer:
Provide technical oversight of the site’s process operations
Define and implement Safe Operating Limits
Provide technical direction for HSSE-MS activities (PHA, Corrosion control reviews, Investigations, etc.)
Perform technical assurance of changes (MOC’s)
Lead Process Safety improvement initiatives
Assure timely completion of assigned action items from HSSE-MS activities (PHA, etc.).
Conduct proactive technical monitoring to support Operations in meeting targets for Safety, Environmental Compliance, Quality Assurance, Reliability, and Utilization.
Perform process unit optimization to improve energy usage, cost, and margin delivery
Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Provide process engineering support for successful implementation of unit outages and catalyst changes
Provide technical support of operations activities with technical, maintenance, and HSE departments (first technical point of contact for run and maintain issues)
Respond to urgent and critical operational related items at the request of the Operations Staff
This position must be available to provide some level of support 24/7 via phone call or other technology, and off hours callouts are sometimes required
Participate in audits as needed to maintain compliance with state & federal requirements, as well as local and corporate standards
Assure complete documentation of key technical work
Serve as a unit representative on site-wide teams as required
Be a change leader on projects. This includes leading the project during scouting to concept stages while providing technical support for the duration of the project
Provide technical support and guidance to the Unit Master Plan efforts and the Geismar Expansion Organization
Skills & Requirements
What we need from you -
A legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required; Chemical Engineering is preferred.
Minimum three (3) years relevant experience in refining/petrochemical industry. Process engineering experience providing direct support to manufacturing operations desired.
Knowledge and application of safety methodology and reviews (Process Hazards Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis, etc.), including safeguarding.
Experience with plant changes and Management of Change process.
The individual must be proficient in the use of spreadsheets, computer and simulation models.
Must have a TWIC card or ability to get one.
Interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and ability to manage multiple interfaces with varying needs and priorities are critical to success in this position.
Understand impact of decisions on production, operability, safety, reliability and economics.
