Your role: The Americas MSAT team is seeking a Sr. Purification Process Engineer to support chromatography resins, chromatography membranes, as well as associated systems and hardware.

 

In this customer facing role, you will work closely with our clients’ development and technical teams in partnership with MilliporeSigma's Sales Managers. Relying on sound engineering principles and a proven understanding of biopharmaceutical purification, you will serve as a key technical contact supporting biopharmaceutical clients with critical chromatography purification projects.

POTENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guide clients with process development, scale-up, and implementation of MilliporeSigma chromatography resin and membrane products (i.e. Eshmuno®, Fractogel®, Natrix®, and ProSep®) for bioprocess applications such as antibody, vaccine, and viral vector purification.
  • Design and implement experimental protocols to understand process sensitivity and solve operational issues with minimal direction.
  • Critically analyze data and model process behavior to characterize process performance or identify root cause.
  • Clearly communicate recommendations to GMP biopharmaceutical customers.
  • Assist and train clients with resin column packing via remote consultation or on-site support.
  • Collaborate with Sales, R&D, Marketing, and Global MSAT colleagues to communicate Voice of the Customer and Market Trends.
  • Stay ahead of the latest development in chromatography technologies including continuous chromatography and purification of novel modalities.
  • Proactively seek out scientific leadership opportunities in industry forums to advance industry innovation
  • Provide occasional support for filtration-based purification technologies as needed.

 

In addition, demonstrating your knowledge in chromatography, you will help to guide customers with use and implementation of related chromatography hardware, single-use components, systems, and process control strategies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering or Biotechnology with 7+ year’s related experience
  • Master’s of Science in Chemical Engineering with 5+ year’s related experience
  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or Biotechnology with 3+ years’ experience.
  • 3+ years practical experience with downstream biologics purification in a manufacturing or process development environment, including a knowledge of scale-up, process transfer, and cGMP manufacturing.
  • Travel requirement is 20-30%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In depth experience with chromatography operations at pilot or manufacturing scale, including column packing, process validation, and solving operational issues.
  • An understanding of bioprocess economics, as well as strong knowledge of scale-up and scale-down sizing principles.
  • A sound knowledge of process engineering fundamentals, especially fluid dynamics.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to colleagues and clients using excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred location is Burlington, Massachusetts; will consider candidates for remote position in Greater San Diego area or San Francisco area.
