Job Description

Responsibilities

This role will be in the Tire Additives organization. The intention is that the position will remain in the Tire Additives organization and will move into the recently announced acquisition of the business by One Rock Capital Partners.

 

Eastman Tire Additives is the world’s largest supplier of vulcanizing chemicals to the rubber industries through its market leading Crystex® brand of insoluble sulfur.  Eastman Tire Additives has an immediate opening for a Process Improvement Engineer.

 

The Tire Additives Process Improvement Group functions as the process improvement and central engineering resource within the Tire Additives business. The group provides capital project and operational support to eight production facilities located in the Americas, Europe, and Asia/Pacific regions.  The group is responsible for continuously improving the Tire Additives processes (Crystex, PPDs, Duralink) with respect to safety, capacity, manufacturing cost, product quality, reliability and end-use application. 

 

The position will be based in Sauget, IL, USA (part of Greater St. Louis area).  Up to 30% travel (international and domestic) for the position is required. The St Louis metropolitan area provides a diverse range of cultural and outdoor activities, three professional sports teams, excellent hospitals and universities, and low cost of living.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop process engineering portion of project scopes for work packages and function as a Process Licensor for capital projects.  Deliverables to include PFD’s, HMB’s, PID’s, equipment data sheets, operating descriptions and functional descriptions.  As Process Licensor provide input to discipline engineering, help ensure integrated design, and provide construction monitoring and startup support.
  • Provide support to manufacturing sites to resolve production and/or quality problems.
  • Provide support to manufacturing sites to implement corporate manufacturing, reliability and process safety initiatives.
  • Lead process optimization and plant testing initiatives to increase capacity, improve product quality, reduce operating costs or improve operating reliability.
  • Transfer technology for new products or processes from Research and Development to the manufacturing sites.

Qualifications

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum of B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 5 + yrs relevant work experience in manufacturing support, process improvement; engineering design or related work
  • Demonstrated strong committment to personal and process safety
  • Chemical manufacturing experience
  • Demonstrated plant improvement and troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated high initiative and ability to be self-managed
  • Demonstrated strong project leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to different cultural environments
  • Willingness to travel

 

Desirable Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years manufacturing management and/or manufacturing support role
  • Minimum of 5 years process design and/or capital project support
  • Profficiency in statistical analysis applicable to Chemical Manufacturing and/or Design of Experiments
  • Experience in successful implementation of systems to enhance Operational Excellence, e.g. SPC, Alarm Management, Shift Handoff, Procedures and Tasksheets, etc.
  • Foreign language:  German, Malay
  • Aspen Plus Simulation
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
  • Crystex production experience
  • Design and operating experience with solids processing and handling equipment
  • Plant commissioning and startup
  • Professional Engineers License

 

Other:

  • International relocation:  No, but temporary international assigments are possible.
  • Schedule:  Full Time – some weekend and evenings required depending on plant support needs.
