Job Description

The Poromerics Manufacturing Team has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Process Engineer. In addition to driving continuous and step-change improvements in the manufacturing plant across EH&S, Quality, Productivity, and Reliability, this role will carry additional responsibilities in the following areas:

Poromerics Technical Lead: Partner with Manufacturing Technology (MT)to serve as a second step escalation point for product quality investigations and response

Poromerics Manufacturing Customer Focal Point: Partner with Product Quality Engineer (PQE) and MT to interface with customers during tours and investigations, and ensure a unified voice is heard from all areas

Poromerics and Slurry Continuous Improvement (CI) Program Manager: Partner with the Site Continuous Improvement Leader and Area Managers to lead Poromerics and Slurry CI Project Submission, Ranking, Resourcing, and Tracking.

Poromerics Process Control Systems (PCS) / Statistical Process Control Lead (SPC): Lead bi-weekly and monthly SPC reviews, serve as Poromerics Subject Matter Expert to support Run Plant Engineers (RPE), and ensure business SPC initiatives are appropriately resourced and executed upon.

Run Plant Engineer Mentor: Mentor new RPE’s to shorten learning curve and assure effective assimilation into the CMPT Quality culture.

As a Lead Process Engineer, you will:

  • Serve a lead role across Poromerics in the following areas: Poromerics Process Fundamentals and Technology, Poromerics Manufacturing Customer Focal Point, Poromerics and Slurry Continuous Improvement Program Manager, Poromerics SPC/PCS Lead, and RPE Mentor

  • Possess strong sense of ownership and are accountable for the success and failure of continuous improvement efforts and for the economic return on those activities.

  • Demonstrate courageous leadership by coaching, asking questions, and intervening when needed.   Challenge status quo and past norms to drive the plant continuous improvement programs.

  • Actively participate in plant safety programs as appropriate.  Demonstrate positive influential behaviors through active plant engagement and excellent use of management systems.

  • Strong customer focus and understanding of customer needs, especially related to Quality and PCS. Ability to connect these needs to projects deliverables and drive to completion.

  • Learn and apply continuous improvement, value creation, and financial acumen skills to accelerate profitability and low-cost service of the facility.

  • Build respect and trust of the operations team because of their great process technology knowledge and continuous improvement skill set (i.e. Six Sigma, LEAN, IPS, Advanced Process Control & Optimization programs).

  • Champions the “next unplanned event” exercise for the plant and ensures potential solutions are captured in the appropriate prioritization system.

  • Demonstrate and validate expertise of both the technology and the continuous improvement process, including:

  • Fundamental principles (mass balance, energy balance, process parameters, governing equations) 

  • Plant unit knowledge (process fundamentals, tracing lines, equipment, process control technology)

  • Technology and process safety knowledge

  • Knowledge of key continuous improvement systems (Six Sigma, LEAN, IPS)

  • Knowledge and adherence to the core Work Processes for the plant and improvement (ex. Continuous Improvement work process) and leverage Financial Acumen

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering required

  • 5 or more years of industry related experience is required

  • Experience in leading improvement projects is required  

  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements preferred

  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred

  • Strong leadership skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a changing environment to meet challenging business needs.

  • Strong SPC/PCS foundational knowledge would be an asset

  • Ability to champion change in a manufacturing environment

  • This role is located in Newark, DE and may require less than 5% of travel
