Our Process Engineering team is recruiting for a Senior Process Engineer with good knowledge and experience in the design of wastewater treatment facilities to undertake design work for our framework clients.
The role is for our engineering design hub in South Manchester.
While this is an office based role, our designers are currently working from home due to Costain’s Covid-19 restrictions. When these restrictions eventually ease, we expect the role would return to being primarily office based with some flexibility in working arrangements. This role will require some travel to Costain & Client offices & sites.
A Senior Process Engineer is an experienced process engineer, who has good knowledge and adequate practical experience to consistently perform the required task(s) in a range of complex and non-routine contexts; supervision is only required in more complex circumstances. The role reports to the Chief Process Engineer (Water).
To undertake outline or detailed process engineering design
To prepare or check project calculations and deliverables
To work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary project delivery team and to ensure integration of Process Engineering design requirements into the overall engineering design
To work to the project programme for activities/deliverables and understanding interdependencies
To support site based commissioning support where assigned
To attend site visits for data acquisition and meeting site operators
To provide technical input to the procurement process
To participate in regular team meetings and reviews and help to develop our capability
To contribute to technical/safety reviews
Legislation, Codes & Standards
Can identify and understand legislation, codes and standards applicable to their work.
Can generate and apply the Process Design Basis and Scope of Work to their work.
Can generate, understand and apply the Plant Operating and Design Envelope to their work.
Can identify and select appropriate process technologies.
Can generate and apply design philosophy and requirements for Process Control.
Can identify Materials of Construction in accordance with company standards.
Can size and specify Process and Utility Equipment.
Can generate and apply Process Design Philosophies in their work.
Can generate and develop PFD's for Process and Utility systems.
Can generate and develop P&ID's for Process and Utility systems.
Understands the principals of Hazard Studies (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP) and can apply the methodology.
Be aware of the principles of SIL Assessment and application of the methodology.
Process Input to MEICA Design
Health, Safety & Environment
Understands and adheres to their local workplace rules and instructions designed to ensure a safe place of work and can challenge and report non-compliances.
Understands their duties to comply with Health and Safety Policy and Environmental Policy on within the company
Understands the principles of Process Safety Management and applies it to assure the safety of their output in environments and situations where there is potential for high adverse consequences.
A degree qualification in a process engineering related discipline is essential
Chartered Engineer and member of a relevant engineering institution is preferred
The candidate should have a minimum of 6 years’ experience in process engineering with good knowledge and experience in the design, operation and optimization of wastewater treatment, water treatment and biosolids recycling plants
A background in an engineering consultancy or contracting design environment
Some operational experience in the water sector would be beneficial
A sound appreciation of regulation and compliance principles in wastewater treatment would be beneficial
A good knowledge and ability in using process tools and software (including Excel)
An ability to communicate technical subjects clearly and concisely verbally and in writing
Must be delivery driven with a mind-set to work to targets and meet team objectives
Innovative and demonstrable ability to add value
An understanding of technical risk and opportunity
Flexible and agile to respond to changing customer and business needs
