Water Process Engineer with 10+ years of experience.


Due to significant growth in our Water Business in Ireland and internationally, we are currently recruiting for a senior member to join our Water Process team.  These roles will support the delivery of major projects primarily internationally, but also in Ireland.


The position available is for a water process engineer with a background in water and / or wastewater process consulting with a variety of experience. We are interested in hearing from those with mid-career to associate level applicants with 10+ years’ experience.  The ideal candidate will be looking to further their career and gain invaluable experience within an established multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy in a position of responsibility.    


You will be responsible for developing client briefs into executable projects, and to deliver costed proposals. Presenting ideas and concepts to clients, demonstrating technical ability and competence are essential skills for the role. Taking an active role in client meetings, facilitate and taking part in studies and presenting project outputs and proposals to clients are also key parts of the role. You will be responsible for the further development of process skills within the team and will act as final reviewer of the work of more junior engineers. 


Candidates with experience in water for industry, water reuse and water efficient technologies will have an advantage.


This is a permanent position and offers the successful candidate long-term and international opportunities. As a result of our strong digital capability and cloud-based systems and networks, it will be possible for the successful candidates to work out of their choice of any of our Irish offices.


Educational Requirement


A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a Process, Chemical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering discipline is required for this role (equivalent to Level 8 in the Irish NFQ).

Chemical engineering degree would be beneficial but not essential.  

A Master’s degree within these fields would be beneficial but not essential.  


Skills Requirement


The candidate must possess:

  • Experience and knowledge of water chemistry;
  • Experience and knowledge of drinking water, industrial water, and/or wastewater treatment processes;
  • Experience and knowledge and experience in process design (Mass balances, P&ID’s);
  • Experience and knowledge of water treatment hydraulics;
  • Experienced in writing specifications, reports, business cases and technical notes;
  • Experience in the design and delivery of Water and Wastewater infrastructure projects;
  • Ability to be flexible in your approach and able to think laterally to solve problems;
  • Proven ability to work within a team environment, including multidisciplinary internal and external teams and with stakeholders;
  • Highly motivated in the digital transformation with ideas and knowledge of opportunities in this area;
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and client targets;
  • Be a member of Engineers Ireland (or equivalent membership authority) and committed to achieving chartered status; and
  • Strong analytical skills to develop effective, innovative and commercial solutions.



A process design engineer’s duty would include:

  • Preparation of feasibility through detailed design reports, calculations and construction and/or performance specification packages for both Water and Wastewater treatment projects at various stages in project life cycles;
  • Undertaking technical surveys of major water and wastewater assets, including lifecycle analysis, condition assessment, energy efficiency and operational performance;
  • Liaison with relevant statutory agencies including the EPA, Department of Housing, Irish Water, local City and County Councils as well as third party contractors and stakeholders;
  • Developing enduring design solutions in accordance with relevant standards and client requirements whilst ensuring technical excellence, throughout the options development, concept design and detailed design phases for wastewater treatment systems and municipal sewage systems;
  • Assessing design hazards and producing a design risk assessment in the context of the Health & Safety (Construction) Regulations and process risk reduction for operations;
  • Producing design calculations, process drawings and costs estimates using specialist advanced water and wastewater treatment design software packages;
  • Providing technical input and advice to clients in relation to water and wastewater process infrastructure and operations;
  • Reporting and monitoring of progress within projects to the company’s senior staff as well as external clients and contractors;
  • Liaising with clients including presentation of studies and design reports for review and discussion;
  • Analysis of information, production of designs, modelling and computations; and
  • Undertake quality assurance of survey and asset data sets and maintenance of records accordingly.
